Supermarket canapés

I’m getting married next year and finding the costs spiralling despite second-hand dress, DIY decorations, etc.
At a fairly traditional wedding (country barn venue, 150 guests) would it be tacky to serve M&S canapés during the drinks reception? As long as I found a catering company happy to just charge staffing costs for heating them up and putting them out on platters?
It seems like this is too easy a way to save money, there must be some downside I’m missing...

Does the venue allowed you to take your own food and not use their approved caterers?

You might struggle to find caterers willing to do that as the bulk of the cost is staff anyway

It is a dry hire venue that has a list of recommended suppliers but is open to other caterers. Whether they draw the line at supermarket ready-made I don’t know...

Not unreasonable at all. Your wedding your day.

We did! We had canapés and photos at home. We also had a few tubs of their rocky road and shortbread etc on a platter. The chocolate platter was the first to run out!

We asked several friends of ours who liked cooking to bring some canapés with them on the day. It worked brilliantly. We had a great selection of really thoughtful canapés and no one made loads, and of course it did save us money.
