We are eloping to get married by a river in the Highlands in 12 weeks.
We have a celebrant, a dress, four dogs, two witnesses and a pair of wedding wellies.
I'm so excited!!!!!
Anyone else done this and have any good ideas for the day?
So far we have a photographer and a meal for everyone in a local inn after.

Sounds great! By 'everyone' do you mean the celebrant, dogs and witnesses?

gigi556 · 06/03/2019 17:36

OMG. This is my dream! We are doing a very small wedding in my hometown in the states. Not really my ideal, but it's a compromise. The Highlands is literally the best! This sounds lovely.

MintToBee · 06/03/2019 18:34

Yes! Just two witnesses, the celebrant, me and DP and photographer . Six of us plus the dogs.
We will have a party back home afterwards though.

The witnesses are two wonderful people I've never met off Mumsnet. How amazing is that. Grin

That's amazing! Good luck with it all. We are eloping to (in?) Scotland at Christmas, can't wait.

Congratulations OP! Flowers

I did this for my wedding, we got married in an orchard with just Dd and a couple of random people there who were passing by. We had to do an official ceremony in the town hall and our parents came to that but the orchard ceremony it's what I think of as our real wedding. It was perfect Smile

Pangur2 · 08/03/2019 06:42

We eloped to a place in Scotland called Crear. It was amazing. We had a party when we got back too. It was all fantastic.

LikeTheFruit · 16/03/2019 22:15

We eloped almost a year ago in Scotland too. It was the best day of our lives. Just us, celebrant, photographer and piper (who also acted as our witnesses).

Can't think of any advice really apart from be prepared for all weather - appropriate shoes (I had wellies on under dress) and a pair of white M&S thermal leggings were a godsend! Also have a plan B venue in mind just in case the weather is apocalyptic.

Enjoy every minute of it!! We had a party back home after which was really lovely as pressure was off and we could just enjoy it without feeling too "on show"

Let us know how you get on

MintToBee · 17/03/2019 12:03

@LikeTheFruit
Oh white thermals! I'm ordering some now. We have a back up rain venue which is on the same site so its been okyed for the marriage schedule. We are going into the main town the day before so I can grab some flowers and anything else I may have forgotten.

@MintToBee I was definitely glad of the thermals!! If you're passing Kyle of Lochalsh in your way up there's a fab florist there. Did me a lovely bouquet and my DH a button hole. Called Loch Duich flowers and plants.

Mum4Fergus · 18/03/2019 21:40

DH and I eloped in July last year, just the 2 of us...Registry Office provided witnesses...it was awesome x

MintToBee · 28/03/2019 06:19

Wee update.
Today we are off up to the Highlands to take our marraige schedule to the register office and have five days holiday.
I'm so excited.

Eloping is the absolute best. We did this a few years ago, went “glamping” over a long weekend by the coast, just organised a celebrant and local photographer, celebrant even picked me fresh flowers from her garden to make a bouqet which was lovely (and bought us a baby gift as I was 5mths pregnant) and my MIL and SIL came by as witnesses (otherwise I would’ve asked some local fisherman). Was wonderful, we have lovely photos and followed it up with fish and chips for lunch. MIL and SIL left after lunch and we got to enjoy the rest of our weekend away. Bliss!

MintToBee · 28/03/2019 07:07

We are wild camping. So getting ready in the van will be a challenge.

anniehm · 28/03/2019 07:35

Silly question but have you worked out how you will secure your dogs? Mine would just sit there but most wont. If outside a screw down peg in the ground could be a good solution. Sounds amazing. Wish we went to a innovative venue - we had ours in the judges office with our two witnesses (who we did know I might add)

SoupDragon · 28/03/2019 07:37

Oh I do love a MN witnessed wedding :) there have been a few and it always makes me smile!

They'll be fine off lead. They are really good luckily.

Fluffyears · 29/03/2019 22:34

We did the same as @pangur2 and got married on the beach as Crear.

MafaldaGregorovitch · 30/03/2019 18:37

Sounds lovely @MintToBee the highlands are gorgeous too!

Does it count as eloping if it's local? I'm half tempted (as is DP) to not tell anyone and just go with DP, DSD and I plus random witnesses, photographer and celebrant.

MintToBee · 31/03/2019 07:39

@MafaldaGregorovitch
Do it!

hiphopapotamuses · 31/03/2019 07:43

We did this last week! Two children, three dogs a highland piper and photographer it was the best day! Absolutely do not regret it, nobody knew we were doing it so breaking the news was fun also.

MintToBee · 04/04/2019 20:50

@hiphopapotamuses Congratulations!Flowers
