H2B doesn’t want to do a speech

1 year to go so lots of time still to sort this out. Best man and FOTB to do a speech but husband to be is quite shy, doesn’t do PDA... and says that he will spend the whole day worrying about having to do the speech (speaking in front of everyone) that he won’t be able to enjoy himself. I don’t know if I am just being selfish but I really want him to do it not just because of tradition but because it would be a nice thing, but on the other hand I know I wouldn’t want to do it either so I can see where he’s coming from.

Suggestions?

Me and dh did a very brief speech together. Think it was one minute thirty seconds in practice. Probably half that on the day!

I made a speech at our wedding in the early 80s! Its not unusual. Dh did too. Actually l like the idea of a little video...boe entertaining as a lot of speeches are so boring. You could put in pictures of a few major events in your relationship history and of your families with both voices in the background. Not too long.
Best speech l heard was from an 18 year old best man who literally had never been to a wedding so it was completely original and like a breath of fresh air..
Also l thing having speeches before food is great as all can relax while eating , knowing its over.

Alright guys calm down!! Was only just thinking out loud to see what people thought, didn’t quite expect comments like MyKingdomForBrie’s “Are you sure you should be marrying him”... yes I am sure, rude!!

I love the idea that a lot of you have mentioned of doing a speech together, that would be a nice touch.

I spoke to him about not doing one at all, and it’s not that he’s refusing to do one, he just wouldn’t be looking forward to it, I think from a bad experience previously when he did a best man speech!! But he will not accept not doing one at all as he has said himself he would regret not getting the chance to do it afterwards.

I also love the idea of pre recording it, that could be funny, might play with this idea a bit more.
