What did you do when signing the marriage certificate?

Any ideas about the gap in the ceremony when we sign the marriage certificate? (Non religious civil ceremony)

I don't want to play anything on an iPod as I think it sounds cheesy and we can't have religious readings etc as it's a civil service. Can people just sit there and wait or is that too dull? If we choose a non-religious reading, what if it is too short and there's an awkward silence? Confused

We had the musicians play a song from a soundtrack. It went by so fast though!

We had 3 songs that we liked playing. No idea if people just sat and watched or talked. Its not a very long time so don't worry too much.

Most registrars would discourage you from having readings etc. during the signing as you (the couple) are supposed to be 100% focussed on checking the legal paperwork, not half listening to a reading and not concentrating. The signing is very quick.
