Wedding reading from song lyrics?

I'm looking for wedding readings, I'm not a mushy person and always feel awkward listening to soppy obscure poems that don't seem to fit the bride and grooms actual personality. Every website seems to list the same ones, I read a thread on here that said their father had read the lyrics to when I'm 64...something like that would be great, people would soon catch on it's a song, less formal, maybe amusing and more 'us'.
Any song suggestions?

Sorry, no help, all I can think of is Pete & Dawn's vows in Gavin & Stacey

LemonRedwood I literally came on just to write “Lights will gui-i-i-i-ide you home...”

Pam Ayres:

Yes, I’ll marry you, my dear,
And here’s the reason why;
So I can push you out of bed
When the baby starts to cry,
And if we hear a knocking
And it’s creepy and it’s late,
I hand you the torch, you see,
And you investigate.

Yes I’ll marry you, my dear,
You may not apprehend it,
But when the tumble-drier goes
It’s you that has to mend it,
You have to face the neighbour
Should our labrador attack him,
And if a drunkard fondles me
It’s you that has to whack him.

Yes, I’ll marry you,
You’re virile and you’re lean,
My house is like a pigsty
You can help to keep it clean.
That sexy little dinner
Which you served by candlelight,
As I do chipolatas,
You can cook it every night!

It’s you who has to work the drill
and put up curtain track,
And when I’ve got PMT it’s you who gets the flak,
I do see great advantages,
But none of them for you,
And so before you see the light,
I do, I do, I do!

My brother and sister in law had the lyrics to Bring Me Sunshine as a reading. It was really nice and people kind of spontaneously joined in.

Another friend had A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monckton which was also lovely.

I Wanna Be Yours by John Cooper Clarke is also great.

We had Jim Croce’s Time in a Bottle. DH wanted to use the song at some point but while I appreciate the sentiment, I’m not a fan so we used it as a reading instead.

Other thoughts:

For Now by Tracy Emin
I carry your heart by E.E. Cummings

One of my best friends had the lyrics to If I Should Fall Behind by Bruce Springsteen read at her wedding. It was lovely.

Sinkingfeeling · 11/09/2018 23:21

What about this one?

CrackersDontMatter · 11/09/2018 23:46

Oh If I Should Fall Behind is beautiful. My brother had that at his wedding.

inchoccyheaven · 11/09/2018 23:54

We had 3 readings at our wedding.
What is a soul mate, as long as forever and then ended on marriage isn't beautiful which is probably more the kind of thing you are looking for.

We had a bob Marley one called he's not perfect.
The lyrics are lovely and not too soppy.
My brother read it and did so well until the last line he burst into tears and so did the whole wedding guests!

AliasGrape · 12/09/2018 13:24

I'm thinking of having the words of 'The Book of Love' by Peter Gabriel as a reading genius.com/Peter-gabriel-the-book-of-love-lyrics

God Only Knows by the Beach Boys
Let's Get Married - The Proclaimers
Better Together - Jack Johnson
You and Me Song - The Wannadies
Lovesong - The Cure
I Believe in a Thing Called Love - The Darkness - this would raise a few smiles I guess, depending on the demographic of your guests!

toolateforbabyweight · 12/09/2018 18:58

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, I quite like the bob Marley one that's along the right lines but wanted it about both of us not just DP being perfect for me Smile
I think I might have a listen through the lyrics of some of the songs on my Spotify and see if anything fits there!

Have a look at marriage isn't beautiful as it's about both of you at best and worst.

That's what I instantly thought of too Grin

At Last
Etta James
At last my love has come along
My lonely days are over and life is like a song, oh yeah
At last the skies above are blue
My heart was wrapped up clover the night I looked at you
I found a dream that I could speak to
A dream that I can call my own
I found a thrill to press my cheek to
A thrill I've never known, oh yeah
You smiled, you smiled oh and then the spell was cast
And here we are in Heaven
For you are mine at last

gandtformeplease · 14/09/2018 11:31

Yep. Def thought of Pete and Dawn too!
