I know, this is MN so before I go further: it is the marriage which counts not the wedding itself. Most of it is a waste of money. No-one cares about the wedding as much as the B+G. It's only one day. So much of it is trivial crap that hardly anyone notices.

We got married on 28th July and it was the best day of my life (and he says the same! Smile)

I think the best thing was the fact that we did exactly what we wanted.... all the 'weird' stuff seemed to work really well and I'm just so glad we did what we wanted!

  1. I had 4 bridesmaids... having been a bridesmaid and having to wear God-awful dresses that made me feel so uncomfortable and unattractive, I just gave my sisters and my SIL £100, told them to buy a red dress and didn't even see them until the day - they all looked beautiful, they felt comfortable.... they can hopefully wear the dress again. They wore different shoes, had different makeup and hair (done however they wanted by the professionals) and they all look so happy, it's awesome
  1. Paid a lot for the photographer - worth absolutely every penny. Got about 80-100 photos back on his blog within 24 hours of the wedding being over and they were stunning, literally stunning and I cried. Within 2 weeks, (today, in fact!) we got our USB stick through the post with many more photos and he made the day even better as he was so fun
  1. I wore a black dress, black veil, black shoes and felt a million pounds. I knew I never wanted white... didn't care what people said - am bloody glad I did as I actually felt pretty (which never, ever happens)
  1. We had so much food and a free bar, there was so much left over, people were taking bags of cake, pie and hog roast home with them... It was amazing, we're both foodies and it just worked so well as it was something we really focused on to make sure people weren't hungry or thirsty.
  1. We had a similar guest book tree idea - we went with a canvas map and asked our guests to sign it.... we read it a couple of days after the wedding and it was lovely to read the comments and something we're looking forward to hanging up in our house
  1. CAT LITTER WEDDING CAKE - My amazing friend had free reign on making our wedding cake as she's incredibly talented. We asked her to incorporate our cat 'Little P' into the cake... and she came up with the picture Grin I cried I was so happy! It was so weird, but very, very us....

Despite it being only 2 weeks ago and it being the best day of our lives - I wouldn't want to do it again as I don't like being the centre of attention, however the memories I have of the day will hopefully last the rest of our lives and it was just fantastic.
