Two stone engagement ring?

We are finally going to get married but we can't afford a fancy engagement ring. My DM has a ring of my grandmothers that I can have and it is a lovely ring but I'm just not sure, it's two diamonds and it looks odd not being the normal three stone you see. I do like the setting style so am wondering about seeing if a jeweller could add another stone? What do you think?

Do you need an engagement ring? I'd either wear the ring as it is because it belonged to dgm or go without

If that's what you would like then by all means check out what adding a third stone would cost. It will change the look of the ring but if it's what you would prefer go for it.

Three supposedly looks more balanced and visually appealing but it's your ring so go with whatever you like!

Think of it as symbolising the two of you : ) Mine has four and I love it. I picked it because it didn't look like everyone else's.

I like the idea of getting a crescent shaped wedding band to go around the engagement ring which I think could also make it more balanced. It would be nice to have a nice engagement ring, we've had a tough couple of years financially which has taken its toll but everything is on the up and going really well for us at the moment so I would like to mark the engagement 😊

Two stones for the two of you is a lovely idea. I don’t think I’d change it at all - they look like good quality old diamonds!

I wouldn't change it! I love old engagement rings, so much history and new ones seem to all look similar.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 15/07/2018 14:01

It's cool! Very different to everyone else's and the stones look lovely. Get a wedding ring to fit it and it will look amazing.

TheTroutofNoCraic · 15/07/2018 14:27

My initial thought was "What size of a rock could weigh 2 stone?!?!!"
I am very silly indeed.
The ring is lovely, agree with PP that two stones is nicely symbolic of the love you have as two people committing to eachother.
And they look like very good quality diamonds, nice size!

TheTroutofNoCraic · 15/07/2018 14:28

I've actually (since posting) looked at the enlarged picture and think the ring is STUNNING.

GColdtimer · 15/07/2018 15:27

Love the ring as it is OP. X

That's gorgeous, and unusual without being weird. Love the ' two stones for the two of us' thing.

I'd deffo keep it like that!

lucy101101 · 15/07/2018 19:50

I think it's lovely too... and if you ever wanted to change it in the future you could always have the diamonds reset perhaps either side of another (antique?) stone like an emerald etc.... well that's what I am going to do with an old family ring!

Madeline18 · 16/07/2018 06:35

Thanks all for your lovely comments, I've been wearing it around to try it out and it is quite nice having a diamond ring on isn't it?? I think I will go and look at wedding bands and see what works with it 😊

I like it, it's a bit different.
FWIW I have decided not to wear my wedding ring next to my engagement ring. It's quite complicated and has a twist, and any wedding ring just goes kind of half-underneath it and looks crap...
so I'm going to wear wedding ring on left hand, engagement on right
