So i love the idea of making my own bouquet rather than having fresh flowers. Started making paper roses tonight from an old book of fairy tales and wanted to guage opinions.
Have only made a few so far.
Please be honest!

I think if you are a reader then its a great nod. Watch out for papercuts and rain though.

Great for hayfever sufferers.

Love this idea. They look great

Mumathon · 09/06/2018 07:03

I’m doing something similar, but a different flower shape for mine.

Cufflinx · 09/06/2018 07:13

Ooh would you share? I’ve seen so many different styles and they are all so gorgeous.

Thinking of painting each petal with PVA or similar to give them a sheen and help if they get wet.

I am doing this too, not decided whether to use books I already own that I’ve read and hated, or to buy cheap second hand copies of a book that means something to me.

I was looking at these on Etsy. I'm having a designation wedding and you can have old maps from the place made into flowers. The colours on the maps looked great for a wedding. - soft, greens, pinks and yellows.

Yours look great by the way.

I love that idea !

SquishySquirmy · 09/06/2018 21:09

Those are gorgeous, and its a lovely idea!
Would they all be roses in the bouquet, or would you add a bit of variety and extra texture with some other flower or leaf shapes?

I make jewellery from paper, and spray the finished models with a special spray to protect them.
It doesn't make them water proof but it makes them more water resistant that they would be otherwise. The one I use doesn't change the feel/look of the paper too much.

If you were worried about rain/dampness etc you try the same maybe?
The spray I use is Plastikote clear sealer Matt transparent but I am sure there are others.

I'm in two minds about these, they look lovely, but books! Books are important!
I know some do get pulped so maybe it would be OK to make them from those.

I grew up with "every book is precious" and burning books was the ultimate sign of the fall of society.
However in this age of mass production and consumerism I think books have lost their sacred status. So much of it is easy reading now anyway. I donate some or I drop them in the bath or squash the pages in bed and then put them in recycling. I quite enjoy my rebellion.

Ooh nice - I saw these on pinterest the other day and have been condidering it.
Where did you find the instructions?

MagicFajita · 10/06/2018 11:09

I made buttonholes too, small red felt roses.

SkaPunkPrincess · 10/06/2018 11:15

I second not painting with pva OP. It's water soluble so you would end up with a stick soggy papier mache mess.

I would use something like this
www.therange.co.uk/hobbies-and-crafts/craft-supplies/stickers-toppers-and-embellishments/glitter/spray-and-sparkle-varnish?gclid=Cj0KCQjwmPPYBRCgARIsALOziAMZyUBOzroaJ7mEmvF3_1PhtoReIp4II-6iQPyJbPWPBkKVOL54frkaAr6oEALw_wcB

You can get clear too.

Cliveybaby · 14/06/2018 10:31

I'm considering a bouquet made of both sheet music flowers ( we are musical and met doing music), and fabric flowers.
I want some colour in there - like reds and pinks.
Or maybe have real bouquets but do the music ones for the tables... I don't know!

Eeeeek2 · 14/06/2018 15:15

Beautiful, but I'd take a photo of them in front of your dress and see if they sort of blend into it and look strange. If so can you make them out of coloured paper print (mags) or maps so they're not white.

Scribblegirl · 15/06/2018 12:09

Beautiful. I wanted to incorporate books into our day and have gone for confetti made out of old books which I found on etsy :)
