Waitrose Wedding Cakes

I'm getting married next year and have been getting lots of quotes from cake makers for wedding cakes but they all seem to be a lot more than we really wanted to pay! Average of about £400!
So I've been looking at alternate options. There is one on Waitrose website that is a 5 tier naked cake, I imagine it's actually quite a small 5 tier and not as grand as it sounds! But I can imagine it looking quite nice with some flowers on and a nice topper. It's £149 so much better price wise! I was wondering if anybody had ever had a wedding cake from Waitrose and what it was like?

There is a three tier iced cake (Fiona Cairns undecorated) for £199 which I have had and was nice. I think the three tiers are all different - so one fruit cake, one chocolate and one plain sponge. That would be so easy to decorate with flowers.

My friend had that Waitrose naked cake, it wasn't huge but plent big enough, they decorated it with fresh fruit, it was a damn good cake, I had seconds and I'm not really a cake person x

It's good to know that they are nice cakes, I'm thinking we should go with them Cake

Years back I had an m+s one, and it was fine.

it's easy to get carried away with things at a wedding - but no one really remembers a cake unless it's out of this world

OP, I am planning on getting one of the Waitrose naked 5 tier cakes for my wedding in December. The chocolate and salted caramel one is my favourite cake ever so that's what we're having. I'll be decorating it with fruit and flowers and should be plenty for the 60 people who are coming!

We had a Waitrose naked cake a few weeks ago- the chocolate and salted caramel. Decorated it with fruit. It looked beautiful and tasted great and cost £100. The leftovers were still good three weeks later as well. I am so glad we didn't waste money on an expensive cake. Go for it!

Snausage, we had the three tier one for 60 and it was plenty. We served it on the day though, rather than sending people home with a slice.

Ooh, thanks for the heads-up, @Doobigetta! Did you decorate yours at all?

I did the fruit and icing sugar and the florist added the log base, flowers and stuff to match the table decorations. I loved it and it got loads of compliments.

My friend got the M&S plain one, added a ribbon the same colour as bridesmaids dresses and some edible glitter in the same colour. Add a topper and some indoor sparklers.
