Paid for wedding dress, definitely not the one, can't return it

Have made quite a big error in that as I wasn't sure about any of the dresses I tried on, I just chose one so that it was done.

I've now found and bought another that I really, really love.

I can't get a refund on the original, has anyone had any success selling a dress and could recommend the best way?

eBay it for sure

Bought mine from a 2nd hand wedding dress shop, so you can definitely sell it. You probably just won't get the amount you want!

WhatMakesYouHappy · 22/05/2018 16:33

I'd just be happy if someone else wanted it to be honest, I've accepted the hit money wise.

Thanks for your replies.

When you sell it, mention in the description that it's surplus to requirements for a wedding that's very much going ahead.

Some people - especially superstitious people will like the idea that it's not being sold because the marriage was called off.

grandplans · 22/05/2018 16:36

Why don't you post a picture here? Maybe someone will make you an offer?

grandplans · 22/05/2018 16:36

Or - put it on eBay and posts a link here, probably safest.

Helpmeplan · 25/05/2018 12:14

Oh no, I've just had a massive wobble about my dress and was going to post the same thing.

I feel a bit like I was pushed into mine because my mil loved it but I wanted more of a fitted, and it's more ball gown style.

I am going out next week with a friend and am aiming to find something else. I can also suck it up but bloody hell I feel crap about it.

BusterTheBulldog · 25/05/2018 12:24

Pre loved is also good for second hand wedding dresses

WhatMakesYouHappy · 25/05/2018 15:18

Thank you for all the replies.

@Helpmeplan I actually feel SO much better now I have found a different one. I am angry with myself for wasting the money on the other and not listening to my gut, but when I tried on the second one I just felt so happy with it.

I now feel completely at peace with my decision and keep looking at the photos of the new one and being excited! So I would say if you can afford to, go and try on others and don't feel guilty about getting another. There are some very reasonably priced dresses out there.

Thank you What

A number of wedding dress shops don’second hand’. You might get nearer the value than eBay. Perhaps try eBay with a decent reserve first.

Belindabauer · 02/06/2018 22:50

Can I ask if the two dresses are similar or totally diffetent?

WhatMakesYouHappy · 03/06/2018 10:20

Belinda, they are a similar top material / "pattern" but a different shape top, skirt and under material.

A friend of mine sold hers through www.bride2bride.co.uk/ and there are loads of new ones on there being sold as unworn. I always wondered if there was a sad story behind them but I guess that most of the time it's someone falling in love with a different dress like you.

WolfMcWolferson · 10/06/2018 17:21

Thank you Lottie, I've not done this yet - that's useful!

WolfMcWolferson · 10/06/2018 17:21

Name change fail there - but it's me OP Smile

Lottie2090 · 10/06/2018 18:09

You're welcome - best of luck!
