Reading/poem suggestions please, with a nod to equal marriage.

Hi,

My gf and I are getting married this summer and I would like my sister to give a reading during the ceremony.

We weren't really having any references to it being a same sex marriage, such as rainbow cakes and confetti etc. We just want to get married and didn't feel the need to do this. I know many gay couples like to do this, which is lovely, but it just wasn't really for us.

That said, I would like a little nod somewhere about equality and I think it would be lovely coming from my sister in the form of a poem or reading. Problem is, I can't really find anything I like.

Any suggestions?

The poem 'a good wedding cake' is a nice one. Easily found on google.

Thanks Lone, that's nice. I'm not sure I see any nod to equal marriage, but maybe I'm being dim Entirely possible!

This is an extract from Richard Blanco's "Until We Could" which I quite like.

Love is the right to say: I do and I do and I do...

Do you mean equality of same-sex marriage or equality within a relationship generally? I may have understood. If the former:

Myse1f, I should have been more clear. I meant equal marriage, as in a same sex marriage.

I don't know if this will help but this is my reading

Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your root was so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. that is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.
