Animated Movie Centrepieces

Hi all!

I need your creative hats on please. Although I’m probably going to fall asleep shortly so will resume thinking about this in the morning!

We’re looking at table names and centrepieces based on our favourite animated movies!

We’ve been trying to work out how to do it, and originally were working with the idea of giant goldfish bowls (because one of them is Finding Nemo and then they’d all sort of match) filled with sand and then for instance minions and Gru from Despicable Me, or the house from Up with lollipops instead of the balloons, or the rose in the glass jar from Beauty and the Beast, or the emotions from Inside Out sat at the desk in the girls head etc etc. This is proving to be tricky because all the toys that we can get relating to the films are varying sizes, some far too big which lead me to....

Ditching the constraints of the bowls and putting mirrors on the table with just the props from each film on top. So some shiny red apples and a hand mirror for Snow White, Cinderella’s carriage with a kids plastic shoe inside etc etc but worried it will look like there’s just been toys left lying on the table and people won’t really get it? Then thought about elevating the mirror on top of something (haven’t figured out what) to make it stand out a bit more as the focal point. Also thought about giant martini glasses filled with the sand and then levelled and then toys from each film (can get McDonald’s happy meal versions of some toys on eBay!) in it. So like the toy soldiers burrowing up from the sand and a Mr Potato Head beside it etc.

Also toyed with the idea of tall, thin vases with more twiggy things and then hiding bits of film themes amongst them. So again like the toy soldiers peeking out of the plant in the film.

Would appreciate any suggestions on how to make this work! 😂😂😂

I really think you are creating LOADS of work for yourself, that few other people will notice, and then only 1/2 of them will understand.

I went to an 0th birthday dinner a couple of years ago, and the grandchildren had put hours and hours into creating these intricate displays - 1 decade per table. I only found out towards the end of the night when one of the makkers asked me if I liked them. Until then, I hadn't noticed them. Obviously I only sat on my table - so didn't see any of the others - and, when I sat down, I introduced myself to others on the table and then we chatted for the meal.

I mean, if you enjoy doing stuff like that, and will enjoy it, then knock your socks off, but if you think it is going to make your wedding 'better' somehow, then it won't. Most people won't even notice. Even those that do notice, no-one would 'miss it' if it weren't there. Just not worth the stress.

Have a quiz or something on the movies instead to get people chatting. Don't put stuff up a height - I'm short and hate tall centrepieces

I love your creativity but yes I think the risk of this looking like slightly random toys on the tables is quite high, unfortunately.

I would go for a more subtle Disney 'look' - like very strong coloured tablecloths (purple, cerise, royal blue) with gold accessories including napkins and candleholders, gerberas in vases, and strongly coloured balloons. Then you could just make printed film names for the tables.

Do you have a venue where you’ll be able to set up the day before? I didn’t and staff had to do it, which was stressful enough without having something so complex

What about the character (Minions would work well) on each table holding a sign of the printed name or picture from each film? Simple enough to do and keeps within your theme.

cravingcake · 16/04/2018 05:38

That should be one character, or the same character!

What about Funko Pops?

You might not get everything you want but there's a lot of choice and they would all be the same size.

Busy books have tiny toys in and theyre really goid value - not sure what the full range of them is but worth a look.

Are you okay with the centrepieces being taken apart almost as soon as your guests sit down? Because unless you’re having a child free wedding there’s no way any young children would be able to resist fiddling with a table essentially covered in toys.

What's your budget for flowers and decorations? Have you picked a florist yet? You should talk to them about what you want and see what they come up with. Taking your ideas and making something really cool out of them is what they're for.
