Wedding dress advice

Please help me decide between two wedding dresses!

After trying on at least 20 dresses I am down to two. They both have a V neck and a V shape at the back, lots of lace on the dress and lace edging round the train. The difference is that Dress 1 is very nipped in at the waist and then has a bigger princessy type skirt with a long train, and Dress 2 is a figure hugging mermaid style dress which goes in less at the waist and fits snugly over the hips and bum and has a smaller train. They both feel quite comfortable.

Dress 1 is probably more “bridal” in that I couldn’t wear that type of dress any other time. I also will be less worried about it fitting properly because it just needs to fit tightly at the waist, and my waist size never changes much.

Dress 2 is much more grown up and glamorous but I feel like once it’s been measured I will have to be quite careful not to change size or shape very much between now and the wedding. I usually lose a bit of weight over the summer and I would like to do some work to tone up my back and arms, but if I lose weight off my bum or thighs instead, Dress 2 might not fit so well, whereas Dress 1 would still be OK.

What would you do?

I am 32 by the way. Smile

Thank you.

It is dress 1 for me! You look stunning

lurkymclurkerson · 18/03/2018 10:58

I tried one on very similar to dress 2 and all I could think about was how hard it would be to go to the loo in! A friend had a mermaid dress which was very fitted and she had to take someone with her to basically take the whole dress off and then back on again. It was very very slinky though.

I also think dress 1 suits you and will move in a really lovely way, especially for a church wedding. You’ll be able to dance and eat in it and I think overall it might be more comfortable.

Both are beautiful though, and you have a fabulous figure! Smile

KnockMeDown · 18/03/2018 10:59

I think dress 1 is lovely, but dress 2 is absolutely stunning on you! You have a fabulous figure, and dress 1 would hide it.

I would try them both on again, perhaps with veils, and see which one makes you feel fabulous.

LoveInTokyo · 18/03/2018 11:16

Thank you all for your opinions. I think I need to go and try them both on again. I wish they were both from the same shop because I feel bad about taking up their time again in both shops when I’m only going to buy from one!

I had no trouble going to the loo in my dress with a similar style to dress 2. My friend had dress 1 style but strapless and there were so many layers and so much material she couldn't go to the loo by herself after she'd had a few. Depends with 2 if you can get it back over your hips or not.

SomewhereontheM6 · 18/03/2018 12:03

I agree you have a fabulous figure. I get the impression like you like dress 1 better.
For me it looks a bit safe but I think that as a uniform is such a statement look it will contrast well.
I absolutely love the second dress on you. Really suits your figure and you look amazing in it.
I think you need to look at photos of military weddings and see which one work best perhaps?

ItsThisOneThing · 18/03/2018 12:20

Number 1!! You look stunning in it. And the bust/neckline looks like a much better quality finish, and sits better than 2.

yikesanotherbooboo · 18/03/2018 14:02

Number 1; it looks better.
You have a great figure and can easily carry off dress 2 but I think that dress 1 will suit your style of wedding .

Mumathon · 18/03/2018 14:11

Both dresses are stunning, but mynvite goes to number one.

MrsMozart · 18/03/2018 14:22

Number 1.

It's beautiful and really suits you.

toomanysmallpeoplecallmemom · 18/03/2018 14:38

Number 1 - the brides I know who wore mermaid style dresses reported quite a bit of chafing by the end of the day so 2 would be off my list for that reason!

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 18/03/2018 14:40

I think mermaid styles look really dull these days - everyone had them 10 years ago and they never look flattering imo. First one is way nicer.

MyKingdomForBrie · 18/03/2018 14:42

Number 1!! I’m biased as I had one similar.. love it though.

LoveInTokyo · 18/03/2018 15:25

I have to admit I am leaning towards 1.

They were also really lovely in the shop. I know I shouldn’t let that influence me, but out of all the shops I went to they were by far the nicest, which makes me want to buy there.

Neither of them are jumping out at me, but you seem happiest with dress 1 to me so I'd go for that.

Nishky · 18/03/2018 19:09

neither of them are jumping out at me

Doesn’t matter really as you won’t be wearing them...

Truthstar · 18/03/2018 19:12

Raven ... any need for that, really?

RavenWings · 18/03/2018 19:19

I don't mean it to sound nasty, there's just isn't one I prefer over the other.

strawberryblondebint · 18/03/2018 19:26

I love 1. 2 suits you as well but I'm sick of mermaid dresses

Regressionconfession · 18/03/2018 19:33

Dress number one!!!! It's gorgeous!!! No contest!

PickledLilly · 18/03/2018 19:36

Definitely 1. It’s beautiful!

RayM · 18/03/2018 19:39

It’s a close one. You look great in both but dress 1 has the edge!!!!

Joinourclub · 18/03/2018 19:41

Dress 1 is absolutely fab on you. I'm not a princess dress person at all, so I'm surprised at how much I like it!

PastramiAndRye · 18/03/2018 20:30

They are both really beautiful so it's a nice problem!

No.1 just edges it, but no.2 is really lovely.

Starlighter · 18/03/2018 22:12

Number 2! It really accentuates your figure. Both lovely though!
