What was the best wedding entertainment you've seen?

Looking for inspiration...

My mate is looking for some kind of wedding entertainment that isn't the usual covers band. It will be a young crowd, no aunties and uncles to cater for.

The best band I've seen (apart from ceilidh bands) was a Bootleg Beatles type band we saw years and years ago, but I guess that's quite a commitment to one band's music.

What's out there these days, any ideas?

I went to a wedding that had a fair for the wedding reception. There were some stalls with chips, burgers, hog roast etc for the food then various fairground rides. The helter skelter is hilarious when you have had a few too many wines.

I went to a (twenty somethings) wedding about 30 years ago where the entertainment was an Elizebethan themed outfit. It sounds very odd but it went down very well and sounded beautiful. The bridal theme was Elizebethan though with suitable gowns, menu, decor,etc_so may not suit everybody Grin but was probably one of the best weddings I have ever been invited to. The traditional musicians that were hired were fab.

I’ve covered many weddings some of the entertainment that’s gone down well is:
Bouncy castle and bucking bronco
Singing waiters
Last Anthem are a brilliant band.
Giant lawn games.

Heaterskelter/bucking bronco + booze = HEALTH AND SAFETY NIGHTMARE! 😱 😂

I'll add Elizabethan band to the brainstorming list!

I've been to a wedding with singing waiters and hated it. I went to a circus one once - trapeze, firebreathers etc - which was amazing. But the couple were into circus arts so that made sense for them.

I'd go for a covers band that get into costume and do 80/90/00s songs if there is going to be music.

The performance type entertainment is all very well but for after a wedding I think you need some music, assuming you're going with a typical wedding setup. No reason not to either - people use that format for the day because it works.

Very simple idea from the last weddding that I went to - everyone had a lanyard with a card with their name on it, and the initial of their first name in huge type.

There were prizes for making the longest/rudest/silliest word/phrase by standing in line, and the wedding photographer was briefed to take photos of as many as possible.

It was terrific fun. I'm just sorry the bride and groom didn't know anyone whose name began with U.

We had a magician who everyone enjoyed. Went round all the tables performing as well as during drinks reception.

One of the best weddings I went to had croquet and other games on the lawn during drinks and then after dinner, square/country dancing - just a couple of fiddles etc and a fab woman who called out the moves/dances. Every single person, man woman and child, was out on the floor - it was brilliant fun and got everyone mixing. probably the only wedding where I expended way more calories than consumed.

Im biased but we had a german octoberkfest brass band but they also did drinking games - bridemaids vs ushers etc and also did the traditional stand up, to the left to the right, sit down type songs that got everyone up dancing followed by brass band covers of well known songs. Everyone after said how much fun they had. Photos are great of everyone up doing the activity.

IMO a great band is well worth the money. There is a difference between a good band and a great band. Ive been to weddings where the band were brilliant and have read the crowd so well that everyone from great grandparents to teenagers have loved it.

+1 for country dancing.

Get a band and a caller, couple of hours or country dancing and everyone will be hot, out of breath and giggling.

I think it makes people drink less as well. The dancing keeps you occupied for a good long while and with all that spinning around you feel like you’ve drunk more champagne than you actually have.

Friends had a Blues Brothers tribute band and they were fantastic - a range of music, very interactive, and people seemed to know and like the music.

I've been to a restaurant with singing waiters and absolutely hated it

Friends has a fabulous silent disco arranged by a specialist company.
