Small wedding, big dress(es). Odd?

Hi,

So my gf and I have been engaged for a couple of years now and recently decided that we really want to crack on and actually set a date!

We've both agreed that we want a small wedding, possibly just a few close family members, but we also both want the 'big' dress.

By big, I don't necessarily mean in size, but in style. Although I wouldn't rule out a big, ball gown dress having said that. I'm particularly drawn to the fit and flare, with some lace.

We're both very feminine, but have different styles, so we should compliment each other. Not that that's really an issue.

Anyway, the main point, or question is, is it a bit...out of place to wear a big, 'im here!!' dress if you're having an intimate, simple (but elegant) wedding?

Thoughts please Smile

I've fallen in love with this dress. I like that it's not white. Ivory over stone apparently...

tiptoe, that sounds like a really good idea, with the second dress.

We had a registry office wedding and social club reception, and I went full on meringue and gave no fucks.

penguintoy · 20/01/2018 17:38

I ended up eloping with just 9 other guests. We got married outside (in a very cold / wild country) so most guests had walking boots on and I had trainers ... but I wore a massive ball gown style Vera Wang dress. And I've never regretted it Grin. It's your special day so the only thing that matters is what you both want to do. Go for it!

tequilla that’s lovely. Have you tried a sottero dress on? I can’t tell you how amazing they are - before designing wedding dresses she was a corset maker. Those dresses give you a shape which is out of this world. Go and try it on!!!!

Lovely dress @Tequilaitmakesmestupid !! I’ve gone for Maggie Sottero Greer, and I have the biggest most wonderful Swarovski earrings drop earrings. I have a really nice registry office and pub after, 30 people including the bride and groom.

Massive dress. 27 people at my wedding have what you like Smile

MotherHen, wow. You look stunning. That is big, but elegant with it. Gorgeous.

Alabaster, I haven't, but I'm always drawn to their dresses. I like this sexy, but classy look, which they do so well. I shall definitely be trying some on soon Smile

Wombat, I absolutely love your dress. If I was petite, I would definitely go for this style. I'm slim, but I'm not sure this shape would compliment my figure. Love those earrings too!

Susie, beautiful! Smile

I’m hourglass - def not slender! But it was shiny shiny shiny. I hope we’ve convinced you OP!!

That's beautiful , Tequila. I'm not a big dress person (I'm wearing a knee length 50s dress for my wedding) but that dress is so beautiful and classy that i'd wear itSmile

I had a tiny wedding with 10 guests of which 6 were kids. I originally wanted a non-white simple, mature dress but I ended up in a massive white dress. My MIL was not impressed but I didn't care. I loved it.

Trills · 21/01/2018 13:02

Your wedding day is the one day of your life that you get to wear a dress that is as over the top and ridiculous as you like and nobody is allowed to judge you for it.

Tequilaitmakesmestupid · 21/01/2018 14:34

magic, it really is gorgeous isn't it. The neckline is a bit plungey though isn't it. More of a boob line Confused Apparently it's stocked 5 miles away from me!

OP posts:
MagicFajita · 21/01/2018 14:52

I think the neckline is fine to be honest. If the dress was short or cheaply made it'd be a bit 'obvious' , with the quality of the make and flowing skirt though I think it's perfect.

5 miles? You know that you have to try it on right?Smile

Tequilaitmakesmestupid · 21/01/2018 14:56

Magic, I would need one of those multi way, magic bras though. Yes, I think it's something I have to do Grin

Eloping, no guests but hell Yeah i’m Having a dress. I have it ordered. Go for it

Alabasterangel6 · 22/01/2018 11:44

Tequilla NO BRA with a sottero. Trust me. You won’t need it. It’s a corset inside the dress. I’m a 34FF and it’s the only dress I’ve ever ever worn with no bra!!

Tequilaitmakesmestupid · 22/01/2018 18:41

Alabaster, definitely need to try it on. It sounds like a magic dress Grin I will take pictures of all of them and post.

WEAR THE DRESS!!!!!

I’m getting married in September after a fuck up of a practice run when I was 21

I decided that because it was my second wedding I didn’t want but or over the top or anything too weddingy...
I tried on a princess and loved it!!!
I did end up with a blush pink mermaid shape dress which I NEVER in a million years thought I’d get but I LOVE it.

Do what you want, wear what you want, enjoy marrying the love of your life. X

HeckyPeck · 28/01/2018 12:46

Ooh the Belicia is beautiful. Try it on!!

(I want to get married again so I can try dresses! Grin )

Tequilaitmakesmestupid · 04/02/2018 09:29

Update-

So I tried on the Belicia and is beautiful, but I a bit OTT in the curve department. However it was between that one and a style and colour I'd never have thought I'd go for. The attached one, but in the pictures, I don't like it. I fell in love with it in the shop! Do you think it flatters my figure? I'm told I definitely looked better in the flesh. Thoughts?...
