Too much pressure, we’re eloping instead

Planning this wedding has turned into a nightmare. Too many family politics, MIL2b being very judgemental about what we want and how much we’re spending.

Add into that every conversation we have about the wedding turning into us being talked ‘at’ about BIL2bs multiple failed engagements and the reality that the whole thing is just so damn stressful has seen us decide to cancel the whole thing and just get married ASAP.

2 of my kids are over 18 so they can be witnesses and we’ll go out somewhere for lunch afterwards :)

It’ll upset so many people but we don’t care - we’re going to use the wedding budget to go on holiday next year instead :)

Wise choice. You might consider having a party afterwards so that friends and family can have a bit of a do over you getting married. That should also sooth any hurt feelings over the elopement.

MIL2b will absolutely throw a massive tantrum but as I keep saying to DP “it all nothing to do with her”. We can’t keep doing things to placate her, especially as she’s not in a position to financially help with the wedding. We are paying for everything ourselves so we need to be strong and have the day that we want.

The kids are all onboard with the idea, and really they’re the only ones who we want to keep happy. My parents won’t be upset, all they’ll care about is that we had the day we wanted.

Sounds like your MIL2b is going to throw a tantrum either way, so might as well let her and do what suits both of you
