Engagement gift for him

DP proposed on NYE. (squee!)

We're going to pick a ring out together, but I'd love to get him an engagement gift as well.

Has anyone done this? Any ideas for suitable gifts? I had thought about a watch but would love other suggestions and stories from people.

I got dh a puppy when we got engaged!! Had planned it for a year but he didn't know!! Knew at some point we would be getting the breed he wanted but not actually when. Handed her over on Christmas Eve 4 years ago and he burst into tears!! I didn't get my ring til 7 th Jan as he bottled out of the New Year's Eve proposal!! He had a dozen roses delivered and I saw the ring box in his jeans!! He still doesn't know I saw!!
Married with a toddler and the ddog is a fabulous member of the family!!

I bought my DH a watch

I made my husband a paracord bracelet when he mentioned that he was a bit disappointed that there is no male equivalent of an engagement ring (although I appreciate a man could also wear a ring, but DH didn't want to). Pretty easy to make and just his kind of thing

I love the idea of making him something. I knit, crochet, sew and cross-stitch so between all of those, there has to be something I could make.
