Is this an American thing? I'd like to do it. But I'm worried about how it'll be received.

Anyone done it and can offer advice? Was it awkward?

I've never seen it at a wedding I've been to (in UK).
I mean, at various points in the evening, brides will dance with their Dads sometimes, but they've always just got o with having a dance, not making a big hoo ha about it, IME

All the weddings I've been to in the UK (including mine) have had them. They've been lovely to watch :-)

If you'd like one then go for it!

Ps: missed the last bit of your post. I didn't find it awkward at all. The bride and groom one felt more awkward as it felt like there was now expectation

More not now!

I'm the same as BackForGood. I've been to many UK, French and Spanish weddings and also 2 "US" weddings that took place in U.K. I'd actually never heard of a father daughter dance except at U.S. "prom" style events and the Mexican celebration for 15 year old girls. But if you want one, go for it, it doesn't hurt anyone? Smile
