Rhodium plating

Getting married next year. I inherited my late grandmas wedding ring which is perfect and even still has the engraving of her and my Grandpa's initials and wedding date. They were very happy and very much in love and I would love to use her ring as my wedding ring. The problem I have is that it is yellow gold and my engagement ring is platinum. I know I can get it rhodiu plated similar to the process used on white gold. However I have read that it's not recommended as it doesn't last long etc. Can anyone advise if they have had a ring plated and how long it lasted before the original gold started to show?

I had it done maybe 10 years ago to my grans wedding & engagement rings & it wasn't worth it. The gold showed through quickly & the wear was uneven. I stopped wearing them but they still have uneven colouring.

The process Might have improved in 10 years though?

Sorry. It probably started to tarnish within 6 months. It started on the inside first though so no one but me noticed.

I wouldn't do it for every day wear. Keep it as it was made. It more special that way and wear it occasionally. Choose a platinum ring to go with your engagement ring then they will match.

Thanks. It was a nice idea I suppose but will tell DH to get his wallet out 😝. It’s such a special ring, GD gave it to GM in 1945 and it’s a very thin plain ring. He eventually gave her a more expensive ornate one when they had more money, she always wore both. That plain band meant more to her than anything fancy.
