Wedding Traditions

This is the first time I have started a thread so hope I have done it correctly.

I wanted to ask which traditions you stuck to for your wedding? We are in the planning stages and just deciding what we want to do and what we can leave out of our wedding.

Traditions or social conventions?

We wanted a trumpeter, a choir, Cwm Rhondda, champagne, cake, a meal and some dancing.

We didn't want a church, a dj, a cheesy disco, lots of tedious photographs, child bridesmaids, a ring-bearer, an expensive vintage car, to throw the bouquet, a pic of me flashing a garter , long drives between venues, to be in a barn bloody miles from anywhere or to spend too much money, all of which are conventional, if not actually traditional.

You don't have to have any of it, OP. If you don't actively want something, bin it. Everything Badger mentions brings me out in hives too. We just went for tapas after the briefest possible ceremony at a north London registry office. No rings, formal dress, posed photos.

Currently planning my wedding and we have decided to keep a few traditions.

My DH (to be) will be staying at the venue the night before as his work friends are travelling and will be staying there too.

I'm having a big white dress because I want one.

We aren't bothering with a cake as we never eat it at weddings and it's quite expensive so instead we are having cheese for our evening food and having spoken to our venue they are going to display it stacked as a cake so we can still do a cake cutting but with no extra cost.

We already have 2 young kids so they are our Petal Patrol & Ring Security.

We won't be having a bouquet throw, garter toss or flashy cars (no-one will see them). We will probably have a 1st dance but not to anything soppy, more a let's get the party started sort of thing.
