Different Evening Ideas...

Hi everyone,

I have just got engaged, very excited to spend the rest of my life with him :)

Starting to try and think about the wedding. I want a different style of evening do - absolutely no offence to anyone who has done this, but I do not want a cheesy macarena type disco... I'm not even 100% sure I want dancing. But equally, after a meal I am not sure what other options there are?

I would be SO grateful if you could share with me what sort of things you did after the ceremony and wedding breakfast, or weddings you've attended that have been a little different...

Please inspire me! Thanks in advance :)

We didn't have a cheesy disco, we picked a decent playlist and a Dj who knew we didn't want crap music!

I went to a wedding with no dancing at all recently and tbh after the meal it felt quite flat and a lot of people left early, you do need some kind of music/entertainment for the evening or it feels like a long day for guests

We left after the meal and everyone who wanted too went back to the PIL.

We didn't want an evening do. They aren't compulsory.

As per sooperdooper we researched a decent dj and did a strict playlist/ do not playlist.

Maybe an afternoon reception with a victorian fair and a bus bar (double decker red bus that serves drinks). Folk band for music and straw bales in a meadow for seating.

Oh please don't do the straw bales thing - realistically who wants to sit on a straw bale all evening. So bloody tedious (sorry Odins, the rest of your ideas sound lovely).

I've been to a couple of weddings that had celidhs in the evening. That was great.

Thank you! A ceilidh seems a good idea but also has been done at the last two weddings I've been to... not sure.

I'd love a band but expecting that to be very expensive.....?

We had a band, but we also had fireworks at 10pm. Plus a photo booth with dressing up stuff which was VERY popular.

What would you consider a good evening out? And what about your friends?
There's a huge choice of bands, but as with most wedding things, you probably need to find at least £1000 - seems to be the starting price everybody puts on everything...

I was at a small wedding of about 40. Meal over by 7.30pm. All retired to the bar. Setting was very different it was in a private professionals club taken over for the day/evening. Professional pianist played a wide mixed selection for background, and everyone mingled. No official dancing.. By 9.30 it started to thin and this left the main guests. B and G, the parents, closest friends etc.. who gathered round in one big multi generational group and chatted, told yarns, and got to know each other. By 11 we all said our goodnights and left with a lovely feeling of family warmth.
