Wedding in 6 weeks - need a dress!!!

snowydrops · 02/08/2015 20:55

We are getting married in 6 weeks time (very last minute after a looong engagement) and I need a dress. We are having a low key beach wedding abroad, it is going to be hot (even if not sunny) and so Ideally something not overly warm would be good.

I don't want to spend more than £300 ish as It's a tiny wedding and we will most likely have a big proper celebration when back so I may end up buying another dress for that.

Any ideas of where to look? I thought Monsoon but not much there I liked. I am a size 10 so can wear most things but nothing without boob support otherwise I would probably opt for a very simple maxi dress but that won't work with the boobs which need some support these days.

Can anyone help?

Have you looked at Debenhams?

Spickle · 03/08/2015 20:51

Phase 8, Oasis or even end-of-lines/rail sale items in bridal shops. Having watched a few beach weddings recently, the most sensible options seem to be floaty strappy dresses without any boning on the bodice, though some padding in the boob area. Good luck and congratulations!

Well worth a look.

snowydrops · 03/08/2015 22:16

Both great suggestions thanks, I like some of the Debenhams ones and also the fact that I could go and try them on in the shop!

Don't write off bridal boutiques. I'd call and ask if any have sample dresses as the new season should be coming in...you might get lucky!!

Some lovely dresses! Sorry for the late reply! Just given our notice of marriage and feel like everything is ramping up a gear with six weeks to go and nothing planned! Exciting though.

So I can't wear anything with a high neck, boobs are reasonably big, not huge but a 32E so tend to look matronly! I keep going between the super casual beach look and then wondering if I should go for a it a bit more (you only get married once and all that)! I went to a local bridal shop and saw a dress, I am thinking of getting it but having it taken up short just below knee. I have just tried to post a picture but it won't let me from my phone! I'll have to do it from laptop when home this afternoon.

I think if the country you're going to is going to be really hot and the ceremony is on the beach, photos to be taken walking along the beach/paddle in sea etc, flip flops as shoes, then casual beach look is much better than formal purely from a comfort point of view. I had a formal wedding in a church last month and spent my honeymoon in Mauritius in a popular wedding resort. We were laying on loungers on the beach watching many couples get married. Most of the brides had flowing ivory dresses that were bridal but not overly fitted/boned. You need to be able to move around with ease to be able to walk on the sand and pose for photos on the rocks etc. Bear in mind most weddings will take place in the late afternoon so you can have sunset photos too.

A few photos to give you an idea:

Not sure if you've just looked online in monsoon or in store? But I got a bargain in store and it wasn't listed online so you may find something if you go into one of the larger ones

snowydrops · 05/08/2015 14:17

This is the dress I have seen, the lady who is selling it is a dress maker and has offered to take it to just below the knee which is obviously a much less full on wedding dress so more suited to beach / restaurant but I am still not sure (but do think the dress is gorgeous)

Obviously it needs taking in quite a bit as too big at present. It will have a bra within so no need for underwear on the top half and no corset (so hopefully not too hot).

snowydrops that's a lovely dress and the top/back is perfect for a beach wedding. I'm sure the dressmaker will do a fantastic job for you!
