refusing to wear a wedding dress

afternoon ladies. me and DP are getting married. we had originally planned a "shotgun" style wedding with just 2 witnesses and our son. Purely to legalise what we already have just before DS starts big school and to celebrate our 5yr anniversary. I then had the bright idea to have our mums be the witnesses. brilliant. everyone happy. the it spiralled out of control. DP got guilt tripped into inviting more family members. i agreed as long as it was still under 20 people and that i still got to wear the pretty floral skater dress i bought for original small private ceremony. People think im mad. I've attached pic of the dress
Tell me about your "alternative" wedding attire ladies. I refuse to wear a proper wedding dress. its just not me!

Wear whatever you want as long as you won't be upset that some of the guests might be dressier than you.

the people attending have been told its posh casual, jeans are more than acceptable if paired with a shirt. So i'm not concerned about being upstaged. i didn't want to be staged in the first place hence the original idea of the private ceremony. we're a very private couple. we're both children of large families and very much enjoyed the quieter side of life with just 1 DC. The guest list is his parents, my parents, our siblings and a best friend each. so my theory is; they all know i'm not a dressy person. I'm not going to change the habit of a life time for the sake of "traditional" wedding attire

A friend of mine got married in a red dress, there were 4 guests abd they had a great time.

I didn't wear a 'wedding dress' dress. My husband was the only man at the entire wedding who didn't wear a tie.

Wear what you feel good in!!! I wore a green embroidered "bridesmaid" dress, even though it was in church as a person with faith it was my 2nd marriage had 3 dc together somehow white/ivory just didn't feel right for me!

Lovely dress! Our wedding was originally just going to be me, DH, my sister and her dp as witnesses, then we ended up saying the parents could come too. So 9 of us, including vicar. I wore a dark green velvet dress, DH wore black jeans and jacket, no tie. Enjoy your day!

I wore a black, grey and white prom-style dress with killer red stilettos. 2nd marriage, DD already with us, why wear a white dress - that ship sailed long ago!

I would say, with firm intent, "if anyone else tries to tell me what sort of wedding I should have, we will be eloping by ourselves and all you will get to see are the photos". Say it every time until they all shut up. Don't give them any details, don't bargain 'I'll do this if I'm allowed to do that'. They can turn up on the day and either like it or lump it.

Can't see the dress on this app but it doesn't matter anyway because it's your day (you and the other half) so do exactly what you want to do. Nothing more, nothing less. Congratulations!

I wore jeans and we had a totally private wedding with just my brothers as witnesses. Your dress is lovely and totally fine for a wedding. Wear what you like and have the wedding you want. Tell anyone who disagrees that they don't have to come.

I didn't want to wear a wedding dress, either. I wanted something more like a cocktail dress, but nothing I tried on felt right. Then I came across a lovely ivory suit with a long jacket, which I wore with silk shoes and a flamboyant hat, and I felt fabulous.

I can only think of one wedding I have been to, where the bride dressed 'traditionally'.

My favourite bridal outfit (apart from my own, of course) was one the bride had made herself: a short, floaty, lemony yellow shift dress with multiple gauzy layers, a fine transparent veil hanging down behind her to her ankles, both dress and veil scattered with silk flowers in a cascade of colours.

Wear what you feel good in, and enjoy your day.

I wore an orange suit - bought the day before at 7pm when my mum freaked out at the idea of me wearing jeans and a t-shirt, which is what I had been intending.

Still, I guess it was a nice suit and she paid for it, so what the hell.

Wedding dresses the White variety only came in with queen Victoria. It was always otherwise your best or a new dress. I think it looks great. What shoes and any jewellery and how will you do your hair? I always think a completely new hair style that makes one look unrecognisable such a mistake in most cases..

I'll be wearing a teal swing dress and lots of people have seemed surprised. But I wouldn't tell anybody else what to wear so I expect the same courtesy!

I wore a beautiful cream trouser suit, we had no flowers no speeches no cake. (no cake is the only regret!) your dress is lovely, you do it your way and have a wonderful time ????

I wore a crochet midi dress with brown Dr marten boots. Honestly, its your day, doing anything other than exactly what you want is foolish.

I wore a wedding dress, because it was what I wanted to wear. You should also wear what you want. Your wedding your choice, if they don't like it they don't have to come.

We only had a cake because one of my brothers decided to buy one. It was a lovely strawberry affair from Patisserie Valerie.

I bought heeled converses. my nanna is going to pimp them up with flowers and pearls and bows. I'm not having a posey so my flowers will be on my shoes. the only pop of colour will be the red roses on the shoes and my bright red hair which I will redye before the wedding lol. hubby and the boy are in matching black jeans, white shirt and grey waistcoats. I can't wait for our day! today we paid the deposit for a mississippi southern style boat to have our reception on!
