How to make venue look better

I got married abroad a few months ago and am having a party for the rest of my family and friends here in the UK. It is an afternoon tea reception for a few hours. I have arrived in the UK now and the venue is not what I expected at all. The room looks old and faded and I am wondering what I can do with restricted time and on a budget to make it look better? I will have flowers and bunting but was wondering if anyone has any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

There's a MNer called TidyDancer who's a dab hand at these sort of things. I'm sure she'd sort it out for you. ;-)

Sorry. I posted and fell asleep. And that wasn't very constructive either.

Just bumping to see if anyone else had some ideas.

Get glass bowels in charity shops, put water in them and floating candles. Hang flowers by their stems on fishing wire to make a flower wall or over tables. Craft shops have wooden or cardboard letters you van buy and spray paint or cover with glitter if that's your thing, you can use them to spell out words or your names. Pintrest is handy. Fairy lights make everything look better, cheapest on Amazon.

I decorated lots of empty jam jars with ribbon and has led tea lights in them. Our flower centrepieces were all in different vintage jugs on top of log slices. Each table had a table runner, either pink gingham, yellow gingham or blue polka dot. Lots and lots of bunting.
