Wedding speeches

Was wondering of anyone found themselves in my situation with speeches? My dh to be has two brothers who instantly took on doing dps speech and I know will really make a good job of it. I asked my two oldest friends if they could say a few words and they looked mortified at the thought! My sister won't do it and I feel like I don't want to keep asking other people. Just want someone to volunteer to do it -not expecting much really -few words so it's not all about dp. Any ideas? What have you done?

Is anyone else doing a speech other than the two brothers?

Traditionally, it's the brides father, the best man and the groom who do the speeches.

As you seem to have broken from tradition already, why don't you speak yourself?

I did my own speech, mostly about how happy I was to be married to DH and to be surrounded by all those I love.

But be careful not to have too many speeches.

Hi -my dad is dead so don't have that option. Only dps brothers are doing it so far so no fear of there being too much.

I had the reverse. I was Chief Bridesmaid and was asked to give a speech for the same reason ie the bride didn't want it to be all about the males. I speak publicly all the time for work and this was still the single most terrifying thing I've ever done! But she's my best friend so I didn't think about saying no!

Couple of thoughts: as above poster says, if you want a friend to give one, you should give one. The bride did at mine and it just looked more balanced overall. Do you think your friends would give a speech together? Much less intimidating. Finally, have their speech early. As we had so many speeches, I was at the end with the Best Man. Didn't eat a thing!!
