Button holes. Is this normal?

I haven't been to a huge number of weddings and my family don't bother with a lot of traditional things so I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

The grooms family want to buy their own button holes separately to match their outfits rather than to go with the colour scheme/wedding party. I've never heard of people doing this before, is this a thing people do?

The majority of people don't tend to wear button holes.
I would say the most common thing is that the Groom and Best Man (and often ushers) and the Father of the Bride tend to have a matching button hole. That is very often extended to the Father of the Groom too - so the 'wedding party' all match. Other than that, people don't tend to wear them at most weddings, although I have seen other people wear one of their own choosing at the odd wedding and I've also been to the odd wedding where there is a whole tray put out for all the guests to have a matching one.

So a little strange then. Probably not worth causing a fuss over though. We had planned to get them for father/mother of bride and groom and to be honest anyone else that wanted one only had to say. I was thinking it would look odd to have flowers outside of the colour scheme but I guess that shouldn't be my issue and I can't really control what our guests wear.
