Dresses for the 'larger' lady

What type of dress do larger ladies tend to go for?

I'm 5ft 4in and have gradually put on weight over the years. I'm not fussed about losing weight, I am finally free of my demons (teenage anorexia), but there are things that I would rather 'hide' (tops of arms and back mainly).

Being a bit of a tomboy I find looking at dresses very uncomfortable so don't know where to start!!

With regards to type of dress have seen a variety and a good fit is as important as style.

If you're worried about your arms have you considered a small bolero or jacket to go with it?

Try not to worry about dress shopping if you can, I was worried for albeit different reasons but assistants seem to be good at putting you at ease.

One last thing, may be worth putting out to mumsnet style and beauty message board-think they are slightly busier than weddings

maybe a dress with sleeves?
you might want to think about what feature you want to show off too (helps to know what to look for)

also in case you just don't like dresses. how about a white suit?
