Marrying someone with dual nationality - Belgian

I hope you can help! DP has dual nationality British-Belgian and I can't find out anything on whether or not I need to inform the Belgian authorities of our marriage?

I can get plenty of info on if we were marrying in Belgium, but nothing on marrying here if you are Belgian. Any ideas or experience?

contact the Belgian embassy, the staff there should be able to tell you what you need to do so that the marriage in this country is recognised in Belgium. some countries update the citizen's birth or family records and the embassy should be able to tell you if you need to do anything.

Thanks laydeec! I think we may just need to inform them after the even now do DPs info can be updated. Will give them a call though.

I would definitely try and contact them before the wedding, but it's only really important if you plan to live in Belgium and want to register your marriage with the belgian authorites.

They are part of the EU, so if you have a legal wedding in the UK, they will have to accept that you are a married couple, but if you want to live there it's a bit more complicated (if he wishes to make use of his Belgian nationality).

In France, in order for the authorities to recognise the marriage of a french citizen (whether at home or abroad) you have to post your banns and get a certificate of capacity to marry. You then have to send this off along with your wedding license if you want to register the marriage in france (which is important for things like healthcare).

Often these things are more complicated than they appear unfortunately.
