wedding guest crisis

Looking for something to wear for a wedding I'm going to. Would like to buy a dress but I don't ever wear dresses and don't feel very comfortable in them in the past. I'm quite small busted and not all that tall, maybe a maxi dress.
Any ideas? Please help
