Children at my wedding

Evening all, my last post was about the menu and I had such a helpful response, I thought I'd ask for some more ideas!

I have quite a few children coming to the wedding, and I feel it is apart of my responsibility to keep them happy and entertained as they are my guests after all - not just the adults.

Their ages range from 3 months to 6 years.

For the wedding breakfast I intend to provide a snack box (along with the meal of course), a drink and some activities. The wedding is in November so it will be too cold to play outside. For the evening reception I will have a few toys and some inflatable guitars.

Does anyone have any ideas of what activities I should or should not include? Or examples of stuff that did or didn't work at weddings they've been to?

I was wondering do I need anything for the ceremony, as it is a church wedding and I know these can go on for a bit! Any suggestions?

Could you stretch to a mobile creche? I looked into it and the prices vary.

You do need access to another room I think, thinking back.

I had a bouncy castle which both adults and children enjoyed. I gave all the kids a little entertainment box that sat on their table. And that was about it

Unfortunately the budget is already stretched so a mobile creche isn't an option. Would be lovely if it was! We do have another room in the building which is going to be a "chill out" room so maybe I can utilise that in some way.

My cousin did lovely party bags that went on the tables to keep the kids occupied during the speeches. I cant remember everything but there were crayons and little colouring book, a wind-up dinosaur, a jumping frog...

We had a children's area at the reception with cushions and beanbags, books, and story bags and other toys.

I know some of your child guests will be too young but we're planning on having a Wii console set up at our reception for the younger ones. DS is 4 and will be the youngest at our wedding but it will definitely entertain him for a while. Books and colouring are great ideas too.

I made up party boxes for children coming to our wedding, I used the paper boxes you can put lunches in, a bit bigger than just bags; I included small party favours, try local toy shop as they often have a whole range of party stuff, bubbles are popular but can be messy on carpet or slippery on hard floors?

We went to a wedding yesterday. They had done a lovely party box for DD (2) with her name on it. Inside were sweets, crayons, a toy and sheets within wedding related things on - wordsearch, draw a picture of the bride etc. There were bubbles too (which are loved!!). I was so touched by the thought that had gone into making her feel welcomed.

A bubble machine (chk the sales in the early learning centre). My cousin enlisted 2 teenage guests (paid them £20+) to supervise party games in a little side room. They did pass the parcel, pin the tale on the donkey, musical statues rtc it went down really well.

Lots of sales on now so you can pick up lots of summer toys cheaply. Have a look at the £ shop, B& M, Yellow moon company online for party bag bits.
