What are you having for favours?

I'm stuck on what to give, the colour scheme is ivory and soft pink a bit vintagey but modern with pearl and lace and birdcages filled with flowers as. centrepieces. Instead of favour bags/boxes we are having tiny ivory pails but can't decide what to. fill them with, pink & ivory sugared almonds look nice but are they a bit old fashioned now?

were having blue and yellow chocolate footballs! Grin

cookielove · 30/03/2013 19:30

We got these uber cheap jars from ikea and filled them with haribo and lollies (although we had to trim the sticks) and loads of other sweets and then i made hand made labels for them so they doubled up as place names!! I can look for a photo in a minute.

Wishiwasanheiress · 30/03/2013 19:33

Love hearts?

deemented · 30/03/2013 19:38

I'm going uber tacky and giving £1 scratchcards as favours Grin

MiconiumHappens · 30/03/2013 19:43

One posh chocolate?

cookielove · 30/03/2013 19:43

There is pictures on my profile now Smile

MiconiumHappens · 30/03/2013 19:45

ActualyHmm just remembered what a pail is! Maybe a nice piece of fudge might be more fitting?

TotallyEasterEggFlipped · 30/03/2013 19:49

deemented a friend had £1 scratch cards with 1p coins in little envelopes as wedding favours. I thought it was genius.

Another couple had golf balls with the couple's names & wedding date on, which was different and perfect for that couple.

I've also seen small packets of seeds, which is great if you like gardening.

Miniature bottles of alcohol seem to go down well too.

butterfly86 · 30/03/2013 22:33

Some great ideas ladies! In some ways would have been easier to do a favour boxes as the pails are quite deep in comparison so will take more to fill! I always make things difficult...

I went to costco and got 2 boxes of haribo and a large tub of mixed sweets, lollies, parma violets which we filled the jars with. I had about 80 jars, i think the sweets cost about £20 if that in total, and we had LOADS left over. My sisters DH was in heaven as they live in Canada and can't really get those kinds of sweets so he spent the next week eating all the left overs Grin

Sugar Almonds are good i like that they are out of date, like retro Wink

devonsmummy · 30/03/2013 22:45

If the pail's are deep you could half fill with shredded tissue paper.

butterfly86 · 30/03/2013 22:48

That's a good idea to use tissue :)

Cookie I think I like the fact they are a bit retro too maybe will go well with the vintagey theme :)

butterfly86 · 30/03/2013 23:16

I got 70 pails brand new off ebay for £50 I will have some left over so will sell them and make some money back :)

Coverse Rock, i wore a pair of starred high tops under my wedding dress too Grin had to take them off for the bouncy castle though!!

When are you getting married?

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 31/03/2013 02:30

my mum handmade some boxes in our colour scheme... then we filled them with welshcakes from our local and very yummy welshcake shop Grin

we didnt marry in wales, and we're not welsh... but we had just moved here Grin

sashh · 31/03/2013 06:12

Just in case anyone else is wanting to do the jars, they are 5 for £1 in the pond shop.

westcoastnortherner · 31/03/2013 06:18

We had mini bottles of whiskey, everyone got very drunk surprisingly Wink

barefootwalker · 31/03/2013 07:19

A friend had some some beautiful tile coasters for their favours. I think you can get them in a variety of colours and designs from a website called the happy dove. You can have them done for each guest with their name on it, so they can be used as place names too.

popserinis · 31/03/2013 07:27

I had Yankee candles for ladies, got them for £2 a piece already wrapped in voile, colour of your choice. Miniatures whiskey for the men

CornMonster · 31/03/2013 07:51

I had the exact same theme as you, but as it was an Easter wedding we filled ivory bags with mini eggs.

VoldemortsNipple · 31/03/2013 07:54

What about making some coconut ice. It's so cheap and easy to make. Dessicated coconut, condenced milk and icing sugar and a few drops of food colouring for the pink bit. That would tie in with your colour theme and are old fashioned enough to be vintage. cut into larger squares will fill your pails quicker.

Or you could do marshmallows as you wouldn't need many to fill the pail, but they're not as vintage as coconut ice.

CornMonster · 31/03/2013 07:56

Oh and we also had some ivory pails scattered around with love hearts in (next to the guest book etc) Got them personalised from the love hearts website and they come in a lovely ivory box which we now use to store all our wedding cards etc in.

butterfly86 · 31/03/2013 10:37

Cookie your wedding sounds like it was sooo much fun :) we are getting married in August can't wait :)

Everybody has had lovely things where do you all get your ideas from I think too much about little things like this!

Sashh that's good to know about the jars are they a good size? We are having a candy cart but supplying the sweets ourselves and the jars would be great to fill up.

Cornmonster I like the mini eggs idea that's a bit more modern than sugared almonds but look similar I don't know if it would be right to use mini eggs in August though? I could get hold of loads really cheap at the minute too!

Voldermort coconut ice is a great idea I bet I would make a hash of it though :)
