3mm wedding ring for gentleman mumsneter?

Hi there, I've just got a sample ring sent out from an online jeweller. I'd selected a 3mm medium weight, as I don't really like ostentatious jewellery and wanted something discreet and simple. However I'm a bit worried it looks a bit thin small on my fingers and a couple of people have said 3mm is a width intended for women rather than men. A

I quite liked it when I got the sample, but I'm starting to have doubts now and would value the help of the mumsnet jury! If it helps, I'm quite short 5' 8'' with short thin fingers.

A ring is a ring. Nothing wrong with 3mm if that's what you like.

Just measured my ring. 2mm it turns out. Never thought about it before. I am waaay shorter than you and have long thin fingers.

In short, a ring is a ring.

If you like it, you like it! Mine is 2mm, DH-to-be is having 5mm. He tried a few and decided what he liked.

Do you and your future dw like it? If so then no-one else matters really.

DH either has a 4 and mines is teenie tiny for a wedding ring. Neither of them are 'normal' but they look great on our hands! Have what you want!

Dh has a ladies ring, he liked it before he knew it was. When we were we'd 'twas the fashion for big chunky man rings, which e didn't like. Me, I had mine specially made , with diamonds and everything and I don't wear either my wedding or engagement ring.

It's fashionable currently for men to have much thinner rings than perhaps they would have done traditionally. My OHs ring is thin, (not because of fashion because he liked how it looked) and I think it looks lovely

I'm just checking how wide my DH's wedding band is - the ring itself is 4mm wide, but it's a black zirconium ring with just the central 2mm polished up to a silver colour (a bit like this but without the ridges cut in), so at a glance it looks thinner than it actually is and more discreet.

It suits him much better than rings he tried of the same thickness but in one colour. He'd have definitely not gone above 3mm if he'd gone for simple white gold (to match mine) as like you the thicker bands just looked wrong on him, he has quite thin fingers and a slender frame and is about 5'9".

Go with the option that feels right to you and ignore any preconception that 'men wear chunky jewellery' and 'ladies wear delicate jewellery' - some women aren't suited to dainty rings either and would be better off wearing a thicker wedding band if that's their style.

Thanks for the advice everyone and the best wishes for the wedding. I've had a look at wider bands over the weekend and my fingers look swamped by them and I'd feel very self concious wearing them - so 3mm it is. I've never worn jewellery before and the larger rings seemed very cumbersome and stopped me moving my finger properly.
