I've seen a nice shirt, tie, waistcoat. Its a winter wedding so he'll need to wear his thick coat, will that look okay?

Navy trousers and a plain white shirt with a bright jumper, probably from Zara. No ties, no waistcoats for me. I might wash his coat for the occasion. Presumably if it's winter you'll all be inside anyway so it won't matter that he's in his coat.

Have you looked at ebay? You might get a nice jacket cheaply. At that age they probably wear them once or twice and then grow- very inconvenient! :)
If not i think your planned outfit sounds perfectly fine to me.

I would expect a child of 10 to be in a jacket tbh, but I would get it from ebay- there are loads of 'worn once' wedding clothes on there, particularly for children.
Very reasonably priced.

How formal is the wedding? (morning suits for chaps at all? or lounge suits?)

Nice trousers and a shirt. Possibly a smart jumper if it is cold but my DS never feels the cold. No ties/jackets or waistcoats for me (or him).

How on earth would you get a 10 year old boy to wear jacket, ties and waistcoats?

Would you expect him to wear a blazer even for a winter wedding, surely he'll need a thick coat on too?

He doesn't like jumpers, has picked the waistcoat himself and surely will need a thick coat in the church and whilst outside?

My Ds has a sharp jacket from TKmaxx that he wears to all formal occasions- with smart jeans, skinnies or chinos depending on the nature of the event. Smart shirt or t shirt, polished school shoes or converse- again depending on the event.

Seeker - what like?

It's like a cross between a blazer and a jacket. Grey flannel with black binding all the way round the edge. It's slightly shaped with a double vent. A really lucky find- I don't like children in suits but he always looks smart and appropriately dressed in it.
