Maid /Matron of honour

Firstly which of the above is right? are they the same thing?

I have been asked to be maid/ matron of for my sister and have no idea what it entails so please can you guys give me some idea of what you had to do and / or what you expected from yours?

Strictly, the maid of honour would be unmarried, the matron of honour would be married.
Tis the same role as chief bridesmaid, afaik - unless your sister also has one of those, in which case, no idea.

i'll be maid of honour then. There will be three other bridesmaids one being my daughter.

I always thought maid of honour was more of an Americanism for chief bridesmaid.

So really i'm just the oldest bridesmaid actually true as well seeing as other two will be grooms teenage nieces!

any one know about duties? what should i be doing?

Duties include - organising hen night, being prepared for all eventualities at hen night and wedding, sorting out train for photographs, touching up make up, being at beck and call of bride for the whole day, signing the marriage certificate thing and finally (the most glamourous one ) helping her with her dress when she needs the toilet.

This list isn't exhaustive but it's the one I remember most from my stint as a maid of honour!
