Anyone bought their wedding dress online?

Due to location issues, I'm seriously considering buying my wedding dress from an online shop. Unfortunately they don't have any show rooms, and so you can only go by their sizing chart when making your order.

Has anyone else done this?? Did it work out well, or was it a disaster?

I brought mine online in the Phase Eight sale. The dress was much longer than it looked but was fine I just bought higher heels. Just check the stores returns policy before you buy.

Wait wait before you do, i think it is important that you try and see if you can try them on only because the dress i bought was not what i had in mind at all Or just make sure you can return it, if it is not right.

I got mine on eBay it was absolutely amazing !!! Grin you can get some big time bargains

mockingjay · 23/01/2012 23:25

There's no way to try them on cookielove, but can return. I hope it works out, I never knew wedding dresses were so complex with all the white, ivory, eggshell business Grin

I am a bit of a freak and hate shopping at the best of times, particularly clothes shopping, so I got mine from www.myweddingdressforless.co.uk.

I was really hesitant at first then thought for £250 ish if I hated it I would just have to bite the bullet and buy another one so I did it. The best £250 I ever spent!!! You pick your dress and send your measurements, took about three weeks from order to delivery and even though I didn't try it on first it fitted like a glove.

Hopefully I will never need another one but if I did I'd buy one from them again tomorrow.

Congratulations by the way.

I used milly bridal bought a Maggie Sottero copy 3 years ago, it looked great. Id tried on dresses and decided on simple style (ivory, strapless, corset back). It worked out well for me. I really did not want to spend silly money on a wear-once dress. If dresses are the main thing for you then maybe don't risk it. You can return things if you buy standard size but you'd lose return p&p cost. Not a good idea if you have something very specific in mind.

A friend also tried on a Maggie dress, looked fab, but she also didn't want to spend £900 on it. She went to the national wedding show at the NEC and found the same dress (god knows how, very lucky) bought it for £300 or thereabouts, her mum altered it for her, job done. She looked gorgeous. So that might be an option.

i really hope it goes like that for me, melatoon!! It would be such a relief. DP and I are living in different countries, and the wedding is in a third so it's a logistical nightmare!

That's a good idea ZenNudist. I'm not actually in the UK, but I am sure we have something similar here. I'll look into it.

Bought a second hand Jenny Packham dress on ebay :)

Bought it for £40 + £50 for dry-cleaning so it was £90 overall :D

Got mine online from bhs. Went for the " they are always two sizes smaller" . It fits !!

minicc · 21/04/2012 13:43

Brought mine online from reiss, £90! Plus I had to order it 2 sizes bigger as I was 7months pregnant when I got married. (had to be sewn in in the end Wink)Total guess work but it was fine in the end. Always get it a bit big and it can be taken in by a decent seamstress. Good luck! Smile
