Questions about renewing vows?

Right, this isn't me (not even married yet so a loooong way off for me) but one of the ladies I volunteer with is renewing hers in February and has asked me to do the photos :) I'm flattered she's asked me, and she also said as I'm just starting out she's happy for me to work in tandem with another photographer friend of mine. But, what exactly does renewing your vows mean?

Is it like another wedding? My friend is getting herself a wedding dress and it's in a church so I'm assuming it is.

If that's the case, what sort of photographs are usually taken? Is it like a wedding with group shots and then some spontaneous portraits or is it different?

What sort of pictures did you have at your wedding, just out of curiosity?

Did you sit down with your photographer and plan out a lot of things or just the group shots?

This is one of those things where, I'm confident in my photography, but it's a new scenario, so I really don't want to make a mistake (hence asking now when it's happening in February!)

I'd suggest approaching it as you would a proper wedding ie sit down with her and decide what they want. Sounds like shes going the whole hog so will probably want lots of more traditional pictures maybe?

That fact it Is a renewal makes no difference, you need to speak to her to find out what she wants.

Her photos from the wedding might be a good place to start, does she like them, what is it about them that she likes/dislikes? Would she like a different style this time, would she like sone the same to be able to compare, would she like some photos with everyone from the orginal wedding on etc

I have just renewed my vows, the photographer did just as she normally would at a normal wedding

Thanks everyone, I assumed it was tackled in the same way, nice to have some confirmation, and very glad I've got help from a 2nd photographer, as I don't think I've perfected cloning myself or being in 2 places at once just yet! :)
