Wedding band question for late 30 / 40 somethings

Would you rather dance to cheesy 80s music at a wedding, or have you been there done that to death, and would rather have more recent guitar pop (Killers, Kings of Leon, Kaiser Chiefs etc)?

I have no idea whether people of my age are still happily entrenched in the 80s, or might scream if they have to dance to Come On Eileen yet again....please let me know your thoughts...

I like the 80s soul/funk/pop route (Prince, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Cure), but that's just my personal preference. That's the thing about weddings, you can't please everyone! Have a variety of styles but most of all go with what YOU love - happy bride and groom = happy guests.

Thanks wine and cheese. Not much of a soul / funk girl myself, although I know that it's popular. And I might not please everyone, but would ideally like to aim to please a lot of people!

We asked the guests to suggest favourite tracks for the DJ and it came back with a mix of 70s/80s stuff like Dancing Queen, Michael Jackson etc and some chart stuff.

You know how entrenched your guests are likely to be!

But I'd go for a lot of late 80s - the stuff people will all know and remember and think fondly of their (wild) youth.

I agree ask your guests for request lists! My mate also chose songs that were relevant to each group of friends during her life time, from school discos to college parties, so each person felt a special bond and had a special little dance with the bride and groom!
