Right, we've had a massive about turn on the wedding plans and DP is now on board with the idea of getting married abroad with a small number of people rather than a big do - HURRAH!!! :o

So, has anyone else done this? Where did you go, who did you book with, any recommendations?

We did this, and i have been to lots of weddings abroad too.
We were thrilled that so many people could attend (only in Spain) but we had friends from Aus and NZ fly over. Most people made a holiday of it.
We had 80 guests.
and we had a few different celebrations/ a hen/stag night, a meet up family barbecue/ a day after party too.
We had a wedding co-ordinator who took us round a couple of venues, helped us with flowers, one of our guests was a photographer.
It was fantastic
We did the official one in the UK, to avoid the legalities.

I'm guessing you are thinking of a tropical wedding where they organise it all for you?
I don't have any experience of that, all the weddings I know have been organised individually

Does vegas count?!?!?

We were on holiday with DS1, visiting family in California.

Went to have a look round Las Vegas, and thought why not.

(Took us weeks to tell anyone and actually get round to buying rings.) Don't even see ourselves as married - in my head he's DP not DH)

But now pregnant with DS2 and have decide that it's hard on parents/family/friends having missed out on it.

So we having a big party thing once DS2 is 8 months.

Going away is great but not having family and stuff there was hard on them, especially parents and stuff.

I would say think about having a party thing when you come back. Once we told people that, I found they were a lot happier.

Went to Jamaica and it was brilliant. Stayed in a 5 star hotel and it was all inclusive. It only cost 2000 for the holiday/wedding, 200 for the dress from bhs, photos and video (since converted to dvd) and they made us a chocolate cake with our names on and we ate it in the posh restaurant. We got married and then I sat in my wedding dress at the bar by the pool. It was pretty crazy. I loved it!

Wherever you go, make sure you check out the Foreign Office advice on what you need to do on the admin side. All Embassy websites are www.ukincountry.fco.gov.uk - for example, www.ukinitaly.fco.gov.uk .
You really don't want it to go pear-shaped because you don't have the right paperwork.

If you go and do it with a holiday company they sort all the paperwork side out for you weeks before you go. You just have to take it in to travel agents and they tell you what you need. Its very simple

We got married in Antigua , a beautiful place called Galley Bay, it was as close to robinson crusoey as I could find Smile Loved it. Booked with Thomas cook, arranged and booked almost everything over here, photographer, musicians that played as I walked down to the beach and after the ceremony. The wedding co-ordinator met us when we arrived at the resort to discuss everything else, flowers, cake etc, and took us into town to get all the paperwork sorted .

Whatever you do, hope you have a lovely time Smile
