I don't like wedding dresses :(

Ugh, been out again today looking at wedding dresses and I just don't like anything, I just don't think wedding dresses suit me, they make me feel fat and hardly any seem to have straps and I don't like the strapless look (don't think it's flattering on me at all on me)

I just feel so deflated about it all, I thought wedding dress shopping was supposed to be fun and I just feel really down about it :(

Fed up, not sure what the point of this post it, just wanted to moan!!

The important thing with a wedding dress is that you feel good so go with whatever you feel right in.

That first biba dress is gorgeous I think I must have expensive taste.

Hi Sarsaparillla,
Im getting married later this year and have ordered my wedding dress. Im also based in Manchester and dont like blingy satiny stuff! My dress has straps (Ellis 11129), I got it from The Bridal Path in Altrincham, they had a good range of ones with straps, and within your price range. I wasnt sure about having a "wedding" wedding dress iyswim, but this one just made me grin my head off when I had it on!

Good Luck!

This place has some lovely vintage type dresses: www.candyanthony.com/bridal.htm

But I'm far too cheap for them so am getting mine from here instead: honeypieboutique.co.uk/ourshop/prod_651114-Lauren.html

PickleSarnie · 06/05/2011 08:57

I'm having a Candy Anthony (it has sleeves etc) and I also love this one -

you can get a nice lace shrug to go with it or something.

PickleSarnie · 06/05/2011 16:09

Ooooh JanMorrow - I am like this: Envy Bet your dress is lush - they are totally gawjus!

JanMorrow · 06/05/2011 16:11

Yeah I'm a lucky gal. I have my parents to thank for the dress, I'd never be able to afford it on my own!

I can't imagine suddenly hating my dress! Poor girl though! I just liked how I could "design" my own dress to a certain extent, hence it having sleeves, a neckline to suit my sizeable assets and a bit of kitsch colour (pink). There are loads of dress makers who would do that sort of thing though.

Also, have you looked at Fur Coat No Knickers? They're great and have loads of nice vintage stuff.

And yes that Justin Alexandra one is gorgeous isn't it. Good luck with your search though!

I went wedding dress shopping in London yesterday and was pleasantly surprised that almost none of the dresses were strapless - maybe 10%. (I loathe strapless wedding gowns.) I think it really depends where you are looking. I've decided on the Wallis gown by David Fielden - very vintage glam. I lurrrvve it.

mushroomsandolives · 12/05/2011 15:01

Picklesarnie - I am thinking of getting a dress from honeypie boutique also. When will you be ordering? I'd love to know what it's like, I have found hardly any review info for honeypie boutique in all my googling. The dresses look perfect (well, the Justin alexander one would be amazing but I can't afford it!).

slug · 12/05/2011 16:01

I wore a dress from ghost, chosen because I was pregnant and they stretch. Something like this perhaps?

Suncottage · 12/05/2011 16:07

My friend bought a cheap and plain wedding dress and sent it off to Hong Kong to be embroidered with her own design. Worked out cheaper all round.

nickelbabe · 12/05/2011 16:09

I made my dress.

Mainly because as you say, most (no, all) wedding dresses were the strapless crappy ones that wouldn't suit me.

What did was find dresses I liked the look of (this project started years before I got married!), and worked out what I wanted based on that.
it took me ages, and it obviously depends on your sewing skills (or those of a friend or relative Wink ), btu it does mean you can have exactly what you want, and in your choice of colour.

nickelbabe · 12/05/2011 16:11

(they've not all got straps)

nickelbabe · 12/05/2011 16:13

this is my dress back
and front

LaurieFairyCake · 12/05/2011 16:15

That one that tethersend posted from Damsel in a Dress has a silk top (so many are made of cheap fabrics) - it's a totally gorgeous dress for £350

nickelbabe · 12/05/2011 16:23

yes, it is, Laurie - it's gorgeous

LaurieFairyCake · 12/05/2011 16:40

can't believe you made it - how frickin' talented are you Shock

nickelbabe · 12/05/2011 16:47

It took me ages though!

Sooo excited, getting ready for the dress :) So I am super excited because today I finally found what I've been looking for, the perfect celtic inspired trim for my wedding dress. I've been wracking the internet and finally found it and I couldn't be happier. My FH and I are planning a medieval themed wedding and we are getting married at a renaissance fair next year. I couldn't find a dress that I liked that was already made and so my mom's friend, who is a seamstress, is making my wedding dress. I went out and found the patterns I liked and we worked together to combine them into a design that I like and starting in January we will see the dress come together. you can see www.miniweddingdress.com As soon as pay time comes that trim better watch out, cuz I'm coming for it!!!

chocolateyclur · 26/12/2011 04:24

I had this exact same problem. I bought mine from monsoon bridal, added some Irregular Choice shoes, and was over the moon. Plus it was all so much cheaper...
