anyone doing / done the horse and carriage thing?

And how fast do they go? I suspect that a 15 minute journey car between church and reception would be a heck of a lot slower by horse? Also suspect it would not be massively comfortable?

I am tempted though....

When you take a horse & carriage, the fastest they can go through the streets is at a trot. I'm not exactly sure how fast that is but probably around 10, max 15mph. So yes, it would take longer than a free-flowing car journey.
Lovely thing to do though! Especially if it's not raining (rain would mean that the horse(s) would be more likely to have to walk, thus slowing the journey down more)

It's not uncomfortable though - carriages are sprung! But it would certainly be more jolty than a car.

My friend had a wedding carriage business for a while - I groomed for her a few times. It was lovely!

We had landaus for our wedding. Bit twee looking back but it was quite appropriate going from our beautiful old village church to the reception which was at a tudor house. It fitted.
It was slow bt nice, a bit of time for us to reflect before the bedlam of the reception. I also travelled in it to the church with my dad but we lived on the same road just at th eother end of th evillage.

It was comfy

A friend did this, she lived close to church, and reception was in the bride and grooms garden (also down the road).

It was beautiful, and I think it was extra special as they are both keen horseriders (he used to be a jockey).

I had a horse and carriage from church to reception. It was a surprise organised by my mum and was amazing. It wasn't uncomfortable at all, and we were really lucky with the weather, especially considering it was the end of April. It did take longer than it would have in a car but that wasn't a problem. I guess my mum had warned the reception venue in advance that we would be arriving a bit later than I had told them. I would recommend it.

Those of you that did it, would it take about twice as long as a car journey?
