i did, i looked fabulous

TennisFan · 02/03/2011 12:42

I did - and make up too. But then I can't stand all the made-up, 'styled' brides who look nothing like themselves.
Plus, I was doing the whole thing on a budget!

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 12:53

I did - I actually regretted it.

I mean, it looked like me , but my Best Woman had her hair done at a salon across the road, and her hair looked sooooo much better than mine.

cos I used spray-on conditioner (I don't really do hairspray or mousse, cos i can't make it smooth), it was straggly and messy within half an hour.

In hindsight, I would have preferred to spend the money and have a fab hair-do.

nickelbabysnatcher · 19/03/2011 12:56

i'm the scruffy one one the left

wolfhound · 19/03/2011 13:15

I did mine- wedding on a Sunday morning and thought it would be too much faff to organise a hairdresser. Was perfectly happy with it - mind you, was also pregnant so not looking my best!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/03/2011 08:16

I'd have a blow dry with a backcombed section at the crown to attach a veil to. Or ghd curls etc with a backcombed bit.

Unless your good at doing your own hair.

grumpypants · 23/03/2011 08:24

nickelbabe i absolutely love yor dress (slightly off subject)
I had mine done and loatherd it - all scraped back and weddingy.

apples82 · 23/03/2011 08:33

I did my own hair for my wedding. It was a 40's wedding, and so I pin curled my hair the night before, slept with my curls wrapped up in a scarf, and in the morning brushed it all out into big 40's curls. I think (and others said) it looked great.

nickelbabyhatcher · 23/03/2011 10:05

aw, thanks grumpy - i made it myself. Grin

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 23/03/2011 15:29

Tis very lovely nickel, now I know how lovely you looked I'm pleased you're my official mn wedding stalker :)

nickelbabyhatcher · 23/03/2011 16:10
Grin why thank you!
aStarWithHerOwnWays · 23/03/2011 16:14

I did my own hair and make-up too, for the same reasons as TennisFan, and I like to think I looked rather nice.

It depends on the kind of wedding you're having though. If it's quite a DIY affair, then go for it; if it's a huge stately home banquet affair with designer dress and ten matching pageboys, possibly not. Well, not unless you're a professional hair and make-up person by trade.

bamboobutton · 23/03/2011 16:14

i did my own hair but only because all the hairdressers in our market town were fully booked because of the school promAngry. it looked fab though and i saved a fortune.

did my own make up as well, that looked fab too.

RobynLou · 23/03/2011 16:18

I did my own, and my own makeup and made my own dress, cake, bunting, bridesmaid dresses, invitations Grin

RobynLou · 23/03/2011 16:20

here I am with my little bridesmaid (who I also made!)

nickelbabyhatcher · 23/03/2011 16:44

i assume you mean she's your DD Grin

RobynLou · 23/03/2011 16:51

yes! though I did also make her dress.. I was on ML and nearly drove myself made making every damn bit of the wedding, I even made my own jewellery. but it did mean we could afford a much bigger posher do than if we'd paid other people, and it was lovely to have the chance to get everything just how we wanted.

nickelbabyhatcher · 23/03/2011 17:32

yes, we managed to get a better do than we might have afforded, too.
also with the fact that we didn't have to pay for anything in the service. DH got all grumbly about it "i should think so that i should get a free wedding all the work i've done for them over the years" (he's the church's organist and doesn't get paid for it, so they did owe us about 8 years of fees)

I would happily do my own hair, but not make-up. I never usually wear make-up.

I think the tip is to keep the hairstyle simple.

This girl did her own hair, and looked fab:

RobynLou - you look fabulous!

mygirllollipop · 01/04/2011 09:36

I know this is from a few weeks ago but I'm another vote for yes, I did my own hair and make-up (and lots of other things) for our wedding.
