Hiya

Have any of you married or are getting married at Gretna Green. We are thinking about the Anvil Hall, looks lovely. Not sure whether to go for package or try to do everything seperatly?

I haven't been married/been to a wedding at Gretna Green, but I have been there. I'd always thought it would be nice to do the whole private running-away-to-get-married thing, but Gretna Green is a horrible tourist trap. The village is not pretty at all, and the place where most of the weddings take place is basically a shopping village.

That said, though, the Anvil Hall does look pretty from the website. I'd just be wary about booking it sight unseen.

I have married several people at Gretna (I'm a wedding celebrant, not a bigamist Smile). It's very popular because of the history and tradition, and is good if you want something straightforward. But it can feel a little like a production line and I'd definitely not recommend it for Bridezillas who wanted an exclusive venue and who might be 2 hours late (you'd have missed your slot in Gretna).

If you want to 'elope' to Scotland to get married - there are some better places to do it - inside / outside / castles / beaches......

We stopped in Gretna Green on our way up to the Highlands. I was disappointed, and could think of far nicer places to get married:
