here for heavy rain from thunderstorms.

quite surprised at the lack of thunderstorms forecast for today...... May see some in EA and the SE I think overnight. CAPE is pretty low but I can see that convective activity (potential storm clouds) is starting to happen over head in the south.

maybe some in the midlands area too late this evening with some pretty torrential downpours.

off out back later to take another look.

What about Gloucestershire OYBK? My allotment is probably a bit parched and not sure if I will have to get up there.

passmyglassplease · 05/06/2010 18:24

reporting in from north London,

yes I have just been well and truly soaked in a torrential down pour on my way home

glad I am not having a bbq this eve

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/06/2010 19:54

that would put a dampener on things passmyglass

There are one or two strikes now showing up on the lightning strike website I check out at times like these:

www.isleofwightweather.co.uk/live_storm_data.htm

but only one over Lincolnshire and a couple out in the north sea and Irish sea. However, I think the detection systems used by web sites like this need more data to produce meaningful results.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/06/2010 21:13

I think you are right.

would be a cool piece of kit to own

Thanks OYBK.

Weather warning over us in the East Midlands now. It's been incredibly still and very humid in the last few hours but a breeze is beginning to get up now and I've just this minute heard a rumble of thunder! Hope it's going to cool down now!

I'm near Portsmouth and undecided as to whether to get my washing in or leave it out overnight?

It looks like the rain is going to be further north than us but I don't want to have to wash it all again!

petunia · 05/06/2010 22:43

Having an excellent thunderstorm now ~ about overhead at the moment!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2010 08:35

thanks Waswondering!

So how was everyones night? I can see that there is some decent radar in the yourkshire region and indeed that area is under a heavy rain warning this am.

Our thunderstorm only lasted about 1/2 hour last night. We had torrential rain and the lightning was excellent! It was a bit fresher afterwards but its still been quite a humid night.

Just had more thundery rain and I've just heard a rumble of thunder. Looks like it's going to be a rumbly day for us, according to this map here!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2010 09:55

not seen that page before - thanks

So has anyone had any thunderstorms today? The metoffice weather warning map is quite colourful now!

It's been 'attempting' to have a thunderstorm all day here, with it alternating between cloudy and breezy, then being humid with sunshine, followed by darkening skies and then those big thundery, splot-type rain drops. It's quite dark and we're having a few rumbles of thunder at the moment so maybe we're going to get a storm now!

usualsuspect · 06/06/2010 16:46

Fantastic storm in Leicester at the minute

petunia · 06/06/2010 16:56

usualsuspect- I can't remember whether you've said before, but whereabouts are you in Leicester/shire? I'm Leicester Forest East side and it's looking very dark with a good few rumbles of thunder now!

usualsuspect · 06/06/2010 17:15

Petunia..I live not far from the general hospital in Leicester ...all quiet now

petunia · 06/06/2010 17:53

Ah, round that bit of Leicester! Had nothing else here; just thundery rain with a few rumbles. Guess it shows how localised weather can be!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/06/2010 19:22

some heavy rain showing up in EA and round the Thames estuary.
