Looking ahead a little

Brief discussion. It does look cold next week, certainly into midweek. Not sure about beyond yet. Temps close or below to freezing. Fairly dry at the moment though with just some light snow showers. Maybe some snow this Sunday down eastern side of Scotland.

Of course, this could change.

Please, OYBBK, please say no more rain. Warwickshire.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2010 18:19

I think you'll be ok for a bit - maybe a little drizzly tomorrow.
I see light snow showers in the midlands perhaps Sunday evening and in the east on Monday.
this is def a proper winter!

Snow showers? Nope don't want them either thank you.

Can I ask, do you think Metcheck or Met Office is more reliable on a day-to-day basis? Sometimes veer towards Metcheck but am not convinced tbh.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/01/2010 12:07

Met office by far, esp on the forecasts where you type in your location. I'm pretty sure Met check are computer generated where as weather forecasting still needs a great deal of experience and human decision making.

This coming week looks a bit warmer to me today than it did yesterday. Les in the way of snow showers in general too.

just noticed we have snow forecast again for the NE towards the end of the week, any confidence in this kitten?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2010 22:28

not had chance to look I'm afraid (flipping real life!) - I'm sorry had 2 mins to look this evening at forums and did see friday flagged up but for wales/west. I'm determined to take a proper lunch break tomorrow and will look then but off to bed with a book and a baileys now.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/01/2010 22:29

ok, took an instantaneous peek and yes, its possible for light snow on friday for you and more decent stuff perhaps for EA. Will try and evaluate it lunch tomorrow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/01/2010 13:09

not much to say really, potential for snow is still there thursday and friday. Seem to be primarily eastern areas at risk I think. Worth watching out for but the met office haven't issued any advisories yet.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/01/2010 13:12

GFS Ensembles looking cold and getting colder here (note the temps for those are not ground level temps but give a good indication as to what the weather 'above' is doing.

OYBK the met office is saying heavy snow for Thursday nigt in Liverpool but no weather warnings. Do you reckon we will get snow or do you reckon they'll change it again?

It's bloody freezing here at the moment and for the last two days it has been really dull and cloudy it makes you feel like your eyes don't work properly and I no like.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/01/2010 15:06

no what you mean about the dullness, it is like someone has muted the world.
the models are really rather all over the place for thurs/fri. There is a definite potential for snow, but it could just as easily be wet. Jury is def still out on this one!

OP posts:
LedodgyChristmasjumper · 27/01/2010 09:18

Weather for Liverpool has now changed heavy snow to heavy rain.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/01/2010 12:25

Sorry Ledodgy. Will have a look in a mo.

Just to say met office have advisories out for northern half for icy roads on friday and snow in top half of Scotland Sunday.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/01/2010 12:55

I think it is looking more like rain for you LeDodgy.

Cold here today 1.6C, grey.

OP posts:
Marne · 27/01/2010 13:05

Cold here in the SW 1.0C (according to my car), very grey, almost looks like its going to snow but none forcasted. Just checked Met office and its saying its going to stay cold through next week with chances of snow. It would be nice to get some snow but dd1 has her birthday party a week friday and she's worried that it might snow and no one will get there .

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 27/01/2010 13:53

Well i've been soaked on the midday schoolrun and will get soaked on the 3pm one too by the looks of it. I hate the pissing rain.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2010 12:51

Sorry not been updating - in the middle of applying for grants for some community stuff, ridicu;ous deadlines, silly number of meetings that all need prep etc and just come out of a 3 hour meeting to see an interesting sky.

Looks pretty convective to me out there. I think hail and poss thunder too.

Some easterna nd western parts should be aware of the snow risk later today I think. warnings here

ok, scoff lunch while looking at models - another meeting this afternoon.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2010 13:05

v. brief look. winter is going to be over any time soon! models are a bit frustrating in that they keep going for proper cold in a weeks time. This time though, I think they are more in agreement about that. we shall see.

sw could have quite a nice surprise from today/tomorrows weather.

lol! do you think I'm perhaps a little pessimistic about prospects? I do and try and err on the side of caution because after all I am an amateur and don't want to make wild predictions that only have a small chance of being true.

I think you may get a rather more than a flurry by the time tomorrow is over particularly if you are over norfolk way.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 29/01/2010 18:34

Would you believe we apparently had 5 minutes of blizzard in Liverpool this afternoon but I am in bed with flu so I missed it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2010 18:37

oh no!!!!! Can't believe you missed it. Shows up lovely on the radar!
Hope you feel better soon, not nice.

I can see a lot of precip lining up just north of Devon at the moment.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2010 19:10

updated met office warnings ne and SW in firing line chance of blizzards in parts of Scotland

OP posts:
LedodgyChristmasjumper · 30/01/2010 22:01

We just had snow that's stuck and there's now weather warnings for us too. I am still dying, I am sweating that much that my fingers are wrinkly like when you've been in the bath too long.

There ends my weather and health update.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2010 22:27

lol but oh dear at the same time. sounds like real proper flu. Take it easy!
