Take care!!!!

didnt spot this little system forming over night. raining with temps close to freezing and no doubt many surfaces below freezing. Strong chance for black ice this morning.

Please take extra care.

I've only seen freezing rain once - back in December 1996 in Gloucester I think - and it made the BBC news. It is very rare and you won't forget it if you come across it! I was on foot but totally unable to move. The M5 had to close. I still have nightmares about it!!

yeah two kinds of freezing rain, they need different names really. one where rain falls onto below freezing surfaces and one where the rain is supercooled (below freezing point) and sets to ice as soon as it touches a surface. Todays will be the first one.

you are right, the second one is sooooo scary. only come across it a couple of times. once in the States where everything was encapsulated with clear ice including individual blades of grass. truely beautiful and lethal.

yeah it was like there was no FRICTION left in the world

terrifying

morningpaper · 14/01/2010 09:58

the first kind is for pussies

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2010 10:00

lol!!!

did you see the news yesterday where some people 'up north' (think it was yorkshire) were crawling on their hands and knees to get across the road? very amusing - but not for them!

No sign of freezing here in north hampshire, big melt is going on, everything dripping.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2010 10:06

I didn't see that news no kitten - got a link?

Yes I was taking dogs for a walk and they were COATED in ice, like they were wearing armour. And they couldn't walk. They were yelping "WTF?" in dog talk

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2010 10:11

Woah... scarey stuff. Glad I have chosen to stay in. Just a shame we are almost out of milk, bread, butter, potatoes....

honeybunmum · 14/01/2010 11:03

Amazing pics Lady unfortunately we have nothing so beautiful here... just rain making slush, mud and yuk.

ronshar · 14/01/2010 11:10

Just sleety rain here on the south coast. Making the snow melt. Rubbish.
