It is cold -7deg, bright sunshine, and tiny, tiny bits (I assume it is snow) but looks like glitter whizzing about in the sunlight,

oooo, perhaps diamond dust here

very beautiful and not terribly common here. lucky you

weaselm4 · 08/01/2010 19:41

I agree, could be diamond dust. I'm jealous, it must have been beautiful!
Saw a fab sundog on Tuesday tho - this is definitely the weather for optical phenomena!

AnyFucker · 08/01/2010 19:42

sundog ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2010 19:43

thats very cool too weasel

Wallace · 08/01/2010 19:43

We had this just after Christmas, it was so beautiful. Like sparkles in the air. It wasn't windy so it was just hanging there

Wallace · 08/01/2010 19:45

It was about minus 16 at the time btw. I did have to ask someone if they could see it too

DillieTantie · 08/01/2010 19:46

Yes, it would be diamond dust. I only saw this once - in 1982, when I lived in Newport, Shropshire, that had that all-time record low temperature, -27.2C. At that time, it was everywhere - very beautiful, but it was soooo cold, and we only had one coal fire to heat the whole house. [shiver emoticon]

Oops, sorry, should have linked here

ElizabethWakefield · 08/01/2010 19:50

My boss was talking about this today, said he saw it when he left his house in Edinburgh this morning.

AnyFucker · 08/01/2010 20:14

ohhh, that link made me cry (am a bit soppy about nature'n'stuff, ya know, file under "money just can't buy this")

although all this freak weather is inconvenient, you cannot deny it is truly beautiful

noddyholder · 08/01/2010 20:16

I agree AF it is so beautiful that I can't quite get worked up over the inconvenience tbh I love it and can't stop looking out the windows

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 08/01/2010 20:19

We had this yesterday. I also wondered what it was and looked at in in awe.
