Is Debi on the way?

Ah thank you. Hoping the worst is over for most people.

Absolutely mesmerised by this site that was posted yesterday. I tracked the storm all morning!

Is that a storm brewing off off to the west?

I think we got off lightly here in North Somerset, a lot of rain but the winds didn't quite reach us and I was expecting a lot worse.

My thoughts are with those of you that were hit badly.

I’ve seen on twitter they think the storm brewing in the Atlantic may veer to the south, over Spain and Portugal?

ridiculous thing to say - have you seen the damage done? It could have hit somewhere else, and there was no real way to know far enough in advance to know which schools and school runs would have put children in danger

No Debi yet.
1.2 million people were without power today in France because of Ciaran. If it had tracked more to the north that would have potentially been us.

My heart goes out to our fellow island communities. I hope they recover quickly. However it's not escaped me that a rock in the Irish sea gets similar weather every year and not a word...... We're used to it

Are you on the IOM? It's a micro climate from.what my island friend tells me. If its snowing here, its warm there, if warm here, it snows there.

However from many, many crossing on the Steam packet, I think it gets a bit choppy. I don't think we have done a single yourney without some being sick

It always makes me laugh when people say they get bad weather all the time and THEY don't get on the news. You routinely have roofs lifted off, windows blown in and sea pouring through doors do you? Really?

Yes there are areas of the British Isles which are more used to rough weather. In West Cornwall for example we fairly frequently get 60-70 mph gusts during gales, sometimes higher. Same as lots of exposed western coasts.

Last night was pretty exceptional for lots of people though

Something to be thankful for @smalbert . If the storm had taken a slightly different path you might not have been so lucky.

Who was it with the management company problem?

Leaseholders in my set of flats/houses pay annual insurance through the management co. Is there any paperwork you can get hold of?

We don't have a sinking fund, I imagine because the flats are relatively new.

I am attempting to set up a WhatsApp group for the residents, who are mostly tenants, with a few leaseholders who live in their flats. Although our mgmt co is good, they are also in a different town which is not in the same County as us, which has unintended consequences.

You really don't lose many of your trees and lose multiple roofs every year.

There's a guy on tiktok (who I think might well be a Charlatan) who says Debi is going to be Ciaran but over the whole country as it's longer and bigger 😱

I hope y'all came out the other side without too much damage.

we had a little leak as neighbours downpipe was ripped off the wall and the water was then pouring onto our roof/wall directly.

and another neighbours litter tray blew off the balcony (3rd floor!). luckily it didn't hit anyone. it's not the first time that happened, they don't seem to learn.

Ok, you can believe a guy on tiktok, or you can believe me. Entirely up to you. Before you choose, look over the mumsnet weather threads over many years and see who you believe.

I have followed OYBBK for years on here and she has been right every time. I only trust her, Brian Gaze from the weather outlook and the Met office.

Lol! Sorry, I'm a little testy, its been a hectic time.
I'm definitely not right every time, but I will always strive to be truthful, without exaggerating situations and I will always hold my hands up when I get it wrong.

I'm acutely aware that when people talk up storms for likes and attention, that they dilute the messages that really do need to be heard.

OYBBK - I honestly wasn’t attention seeking by my Debi thread! Just asking a question. I’ve asked MNHQ to remove it but they just keep deleting my comments instead!
