I'm sorry for starting this when we still have 200 posts to go, but I really should sleep and I'm worried that the previous thread will fill up. Here it is --> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice please fill it, before using this one.

@BarbiesBeaver

Red zone (is everywhere now?) North Devon coast here. Things picking up, but a very gusty wind. So a background wind but then a strong gust thumping and swirling about.
No, still amber here in Derbyshire and yellow further north. Looks like the south will get the worst of it.
Garfieldismyspiritanimal · 18/02/2022 06:02

I am in Cornwall. Definitely picked up in the past hour.

WreckTangled · 18/02/2022 06:04

Thanks OYBBK I didn't realise there was a second thread.

Just waiting for a message from school to say what's happening but will keep ds home anyway as in red and he gets a bus even though he's primary school.

Kake124 · 18/02/2022 06:06

I’ve noticed it is windy in London this morning and keeps blowing my umbrella inside out, it seems to be coming mainly from one direction. It’s a bit annoying but nothing to worry about at the moment.

FlatSusy · 18/02/2022 06:06

Waking up very early for me and attempting to get the DC's to their grandparents at 7 when winds shouldn't be too bad. I have to go work in the hospital, shouldn't be starting until 9 but I feel ill be needed earlier!

AlphaAlpha · 18/02/2022 06:10

Just about to leave for a mandatory training day (NHS) and glad I checked, I'm W. Sussex and would be driving into London and back....
I say would be because there's no way I'm driving 40 miles in peak storm!
I was quite surprised to see the red warning, feeling a touch anxious now.

GreenFingeredNell15 · 18/02/2022 06:10

A new red warning ! 😳

HarreePotter · 18/02/2022 06:11

I have a job interview today face to face. I'm going to call at 8/9 to see if it's still going ahead or if I can zoom in. If not then I won't be attending

OldTinHat · 18/02/2022 06:17

@cabrillolighthouse I love your description of going to feed your ponies! I was almost there with you 😁 Glad you're back safe and that they're tucked up safely for the day.

Isle of Wight here and the rain has stopped but sounds ever more blustery out. Wednesday was a bit wild with people merrily driving into fallen trees in the dark and I had a large branch fall in front of me, missed the car but I drove over it as I couldn't brake in time.

Schools are shut today and quite a few venues have closed including the art venue I normally go to on a Friday.

I hope everyone keeps safe and well and doesn't suffer any damage.

rattlemehearties · 18/02/2022 06:18

Dead quiet here still...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 06:20

Can I just say that 'cyclone' isn't a term that we use in the UK and we don't have categories for storms here. That twitter feed is a US based one. This is not a tropical storm.

@OhYouBadBadKitten ah thanks for clarifying - that’ll teach me to doom scroll on twitter. I’ll stay here and the bbc for my updates!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 18/02/2022 06:21

so it now says 10 til 3.
so now i have to worry abut driving home with flood water in the road

Gingerninja4 · 18/02/2022 06:21

Am waiting for daylight then going to go walk the dog sticking to footpaths walks then will be home before we are under red warning

Antiopa12 · 18/02/2022 06:23

South coast Cornwall here. Wind Definitely picked up in last half hour and starting to be noisy gusts out there.

BramblyHedge · 18/02/2022 06:24

Bit suprised our Bucks primary school has not announced closure. Secondary school has - but the roof is falling off one of the blocks so prob sensible

mrshoho · 18/02/2022 06:27

Hope the storm passes without too much damage. I've got to pick up my Dad at 8.30 and getchim to hospital for his pre op assessment at 9. Looks like we'll be driving home in the middle of it. I wasn't too worried but now see our area has changed to Red. He'll be oblivious and want to stop here there and everywhere but I'll just want to get home as quickly as possible.

NinJellyWarrior · 18/02/2022 06:27

West Sussex and the wind has started picking up now. I have just told DS he can stay home. I don't think he should be walking home in the middle of a red warning.

No word from his high school yet though.

The kittens are very skittish this morning

Just woken up to code red , we , are in a hotel about 2 hours from home . Don’t know wether to just stay put or get going ?

LittleDiaries · 18/02/2022 06:32

Very worried about this. Today is our moving day. The removal company were in yesterday packing us up and assured us it would all be ok for today despite weather warnings. It's already raging round the house. We're South West, moving to a coastal town. Am extremely worried about the journey - will likely take 1.5 hours, if the roads are all clear.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 06:33

If people have some nervous energy to spend, theres a few things you can still do:

Check your gardens are secure. I've just found our back garage door wide open Confused I'll be having words with dh!

Prepare for power cuts. Get things charged. Make sure your house starts warm - if you can afford it. Prepare flasks of hot water. I'll be using mine up and replenishing as I go through the day. Maybe download some movies onto devices.

Woke around 4am, can't sleep. Grab bag packed. Maybe overly cautious but better to be ready to leave if property damaged.

Lubeyboobyalt · 18/02/2022 06:33

Oh shit... shit shit shit.

The winds here (350m up a hill in Shropshire) are as bad now as they got with Dudley - already. 43mph sustained, 60+mph gusts. Our recording equipment just died after a 68mph gust. On barely just the leading edge winds of the storm over us now. Fuck. I am very concerned now what the hell this will be like when the main part goes over.

Alrightqueenie · 18/02/2022 06:34

Very gusty here too, I can hear the power behind it, it feels like its trapped & desperate trying to get out. The met Office has issued a second red warning covering London and the South East.
