Will be watching out for more Cornwall posters' updates with everything crossed all stays safe at home.

Youngatheart00 · 18/02/2022 04:20

London and South East now on Red warning as well

ofwarren · 18/02/2022 04:31

Wind definitely picking up along the Fylde Coast.

username1724 · 18/02/2022 04:36

Its so bizarre here, im up with the baby (in cambridgeshire) and its still very still outside and the birds are singing but I can hear roaring wind way off in the distance when I go outside! Very eerie!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 18/02/2022 04:37

It's wild outside. Really strong winds. (Co. Cork, Ireland).

cabrillolighthouse · 18/02/2022 04:38

Wiltshire, between Bath & Chippenham. Just heading out to hay the horses, set an alarm so I could get out ahead of the storm. I can hear the wind outside now but not too bad yet.

Saffy321 · 18/02/2022 04:45

Im in Essex and we are now in the red warning so wondering if schools will shut. Essex weather say storm will hit at 10.15

Hopefully any that are open opt to close

LemonMuffins · 18/02/2022 05:15

Getting much windier in Maidenhead. Couldn't hear anything an hour ago - now there's definitely some strong gusts. Wondering if school will shut now that we're in the red.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 05:22

This thread will probably be full from the 'place marking' by the time you get back.

Quiet and still in SW London

cabrillolighthouse · 18/02/2022 05:27

Just back, glad that's done as have to travel along very narrow lane with tall and ancient trees all along the banks either side. One or two normally fall with just the slightest puff of wind so would def not be a safe place to be later!

Ponies were very surprised to see me so early but they now have plenty of hay and water for their duvet day ahead. I live in a valley and the horses are over in the next valley. Not too windy yet down in the sheltered bits but I can hear the trees on the top of the hill in between starting to wail a bit. It's still 11 degrees!!!! So mild, I was sweating in my coat but it was raining steadily. Does feel a bit uncanny (but that may just be because I was tiptoeing around in the dark and rain with my head torch on trying not to disturb the farmers!
Cock was crowing like mad but the cows and other birds all quiet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 05:33

That's true Fleckster! I started this one in fear that the other one would be full by the time I woke up.
I'll try and keep both updated. Apologies all for the temporary double posting.
I'm just going to go and make a cup of tea.

Dogs were disgusted at the idea of having to pee outside.Grin

321user123 · 18/02/2022 05:39

Winds have picked up since about 4am in East London/Essex.
Nothing we haven’t had before, so I think around 35km/h max..

ClearButtons · 18/02/2022 05:42

South Wales here (coast) - wind is definitely picking up. Been watching the live streams of the coast cameras and the waves look mental

Waxonwaxoff0 · 18/02/2022 05:55

I live in Derbyshire and it's raining outside but not particularly windy, don't think it's reached us yet. It's supposed to pick up in about an hour. Schools open as far as I know so will be walking to school then walking to work!

321user123 · 18/02/2022 05:55

Do you have a link?
Sounds very interesting 😅 - sorry, I’m a weirdo!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 05:57

Arpege 00Z - which is a high resolution French model shows a swathe of 70-80mph winds right across the south, including areas that are not in the red warning. I think that part of the reason for the red warning in the SE is the high population density - which makes it much more dangerous. On top of these winds there will be localised funneling effects, pushing wind speeds higher.

ICON - the German model brings wind speeds up a notch from arpege with the potential of gusts to 90 mph.

UK Met shows gusts a little over 80mph in central southern England, rising to almost 90 mph along the SE coast. London looks to see gusts 70-80mph.

Red zone (is everywhere now?) North Devon coast here. Things picking up, but a very gusty wind. So a background wind but then a strong gust thumping and swirling about.
