I'm sorry for starting this when we still have 200 posts to go, but I really should sleep and I'm worried that the previous thread will fill up. Here it is --> www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/4481220-Storm-Eunice please fill it, before using this one.

@Popetthetreehugger

Just woken up to code red , we , are in a hotel about 2 hours from home . Don’t know wether to just stay put or get going ?
Although the red warning starts at 10am for the SE we are now under an amber warning. Trees will be starting to come down soon.

I'm up early to go to the office, but having seen the red warning extended over London I think it would be wiser to WFH.

JustDanceAddict · 18/02/2022 06:37

In London - I rolled over in bed 45 mins ago and dh had his specs on looking at his phone. He said he was going into his office (2 miles away) to get what he needs to wfh today as ‘London is red’.
It’s starting to get windier now and it’s not supposed to be ‘red’ until 10.
Thankfully I’m wfh today anyway and teen ds has no plans today.

Wagsandclaws · 18/02/2022 06:38

Checking in from the other thread. Our red zone starts from 7am and we are just 12 miles outside of it so it will be v windy v soon.

mrshoho · 18/02/2022 06:39

@LittleDiaries

Very worried about this. Today is our moving day. The removal company were in yesterday packing us up and assured us it would all be ok for today despite weather warnings. It's already raging round the house. We're South West, moving to a coastal town. Am extremely worried about the journey - will likely take 1.5 hours, if the roads are all clear.
oh no what a day for it! Good luck.
GiantSpider · 18/02/2022 06:40

The extended red warning covers my area too. Wfh seems sensible!

Lonelycrab · 18/02/2022 06:40

Calm here in North Hampshire but just had a few gusts come in. Thinking of keeping ds off school as we have a 4 mile journey to school through tree lined roads and forest. That’s the right thing to do isn’t it? Don’t want to get stranded later and have to walk him home in a hurricane.

Wagsandclaws · 18/02/2022 06:40

Gosh @LittleDiaries I hope it all goes ok for you. I don't suppose there is any way it could be moved to Monday is there?

FuzzyPuffling · 18/02/2022 06:41

Morning all. Signing in from north Cornwall. It's getting gustier here but so far nothing out of the ordinary. ( I'm up a hill, it's always windy) . Having coffee and toast now in case the electricity goes off again. We had several short power cuts last night.

SickAndTiredAgain · 18/02/2022 06:42

Our local school (Berkshire) has just announced it’s closed for the day anyway so yours might be as well.
BalthazarImpresario · 18/02/2022 06:42

Lonely crab lots of schools are closing now in north Hampshire, had two texts and an email already. I can’t decide if walking or driving is safer to work today

Wagsandclaws · 18/02/2022 06:42

@Lonelycrab don't take him into school. The Likelihood is that it'll be closed now as in the red zone - I hope so anyway.

I wouldn't do it, we had an email at 7pm last night to say DC's school was closed.

Ecosralayce · 18/02/2022 06:43

morning all
south yorks here so hoping to miss the worst of it.
Schools still open, Im off to work shortly (NHS)

I'm mostly stressing about my adult ds who is flying back from US (LA) to the Netheralnds today. His flight left aorund 6pm yesterday I think, around a 20 hr flight. Not sure routes of planes etc (LOL) but hoping it doesn't effect him. Having to remind myself the pilot probably checks the weather forcast and know how to handle storms!!

OrangeSamphire · 18/02/2022 06:43

Morning. South east Cornwall seafront here. Windy through the night but nothing unusual until about 20 mins ago. The gusts are starting to pick up.

Still not scary out there. Though we are somewhat hardened to winter gales here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2022 06:43

@Lubeyboobyalt

Oh shit... shit shit shit.

The winds here (350m up a hill in Shropshire) are as bad now as they got with Dudley - already. 43mph sustained, 60+mph gusts. Our recording equipment just died after a 68mph gust. On barely just the leading edge winds of the storm over us now. Fuck. I am very concerned now what the hell this will be like when the main part goes over.

What sort of site is your anemometer on? that is a very strong gust for a home weather station.
@cabrillolighthouse I love your description of going to feed your ponies! I was almost there with you 😁 Glad you're back safe and that they're tucked up safely for the day.

Isle of Wight here and the rain has stopped but sounds ever more blustery out. Wednesday was a bit wild with people merrily driving into fallen trees in the dark and I had a large branch fall in front of me, missed the car but I drove over it as I couldn't brake in time.

Schools are shut today and quite a few venues have closed including the art venue I normally go to on a Friday.

I hope everyone keeps safe and well and doesn't suffer any damage.
Hello Fellow IOW-er!

I was so pleased to get our school shut notification. Blustery where we are but not too bad yet. We did hear some bins rolling down the road though. We are relatively sheltered but I am feeling for everyone living on the Freshwater, Totland Bay Alum Bay side of things!

FlowerTink · 18/02/2022 06:45

In the new red zone so feeling a bit more nervous. Saw some helpful advice last night to make sure phones/tablets are charged and have pre-downloaded some shows for the DC incase the power goes.

poorbuthappy · 18/02/2022 06:45

Just starting to kick off now out side Newport. Almighty gust which felt like it almost lifted the house.

Wakeywakeysleepyhead · 18/02/2022 06:46

On a SW facing hillside just inland from North Coast of Cornwall.
Wind is starting to really pick up now but I'm aware we're only just at the beginning of this Shock

CrypticCode · 18/02/2022 06:47

Morning! Checking in.

Can still hear planes going over.

coldfeetmama · 18/02/2022 06:47

South Derbyshire here , wet and windy but nothing too bad as yet , garden furniture wedged in place , watching with interest

Just hoping everyone stays safe

FuzzyPuffling · 18/02/2022 06:48

Gust of 87mph reported in West Cornwall.

ChatterMonkey · 18/02/2022 06:49

I know its not where the main bulk of the storm is, but I have to drive from glasgow to newcastle today, and theres an amber warning for wind and snow on the route.

Do people who know more detail about the weather progression know when would be best to make this journey?

LittleDiaries · 18/02/2022 06:50

@Wagsandclaws Unfortunately we can't wait till Monday, unless the removal company tell us that they want to do that. DH & I have been talking about it a lot and we're hoping the worst of the storm will have died down before we start the journey but, if not, then we will delay our drive for as long as possible. This is awful. I've moved in heavy snow before but never a storm.

LakieLady · 18/02/2022 06:52

@Recycledblonde

Dogs were disgusted at the idea of having to pee outside.Grin
One of my dogs was like that. She'd look out the back door and look up at me with a "Must I really?" look on her face, then stump off up the garden with an air of disgruntlement.

I do miss her,
